King Arthur stretch

I thought I was doing okay on flexibility

46 years old

never been able to do the splits or anything but thought I was doing fine, no aches or pains or oofs when sitting on the floor.

but today I came across this stretch for the first time. Never heard of it. For reference, my sister is doing yoga classes - I used to go but don't like group stuff. So she told me they did this in a class and she struggled.

googled it...thought that looks okay...I can't do it all!

i'm fine with one leg in front, one against the wall - separately. But combine the two? Just can't do it. Also, I looked up step by step and it says to start with the back leg going up the wall first. That makes no sense, if I was able to do it, I'd have to do it the other way round.

curious to know if others can do this?

I saw this last night but I wasn't getting out of bed to try it! I can get the overall legs part but my knee isn't right against the wall and there's no way I can get my back to the wall. I'm going to set it as a challenge for myself, thanks!

Thanks
it wasn't the right time to post, I lnow, I had just been chatting with her and then googling it.

these things bug me, like how people get up from the floor crosslegged, without crossing their legs!

also, with this, surely you'd start by putting the front knee forward? Anyone else fancy a stretch this morning? 😂

PS I don't think you need to get your back right against the wall. Some pics make it look like that though.

I have (fake) wood floor so I put a cushion under that knee.

I cannot do it. I am about 30cm away from the wall with my back, and there's a slight lack of flexibility across the top of my foot that leaves my knee about 3-5cm from the wall.

I can do it, but I’ve got a lot of flexibility in my hips/hip flexors. It is intense though!

Is it going to be like the splits...if you didn't do it as a child, you won't manage as an adult?

for reference, I also can't do that thing of getting up from the floor cross legged, without uncrossing legs...seemingly rising up from the side of your feet...just, what?!

I’ve just tried getting up cross legged without uncrossing my legs, and I can do it. And yes I basically am rising up from the sides of my feet!
can’t do the splits though!

Honestly wonder if some o these things are genetic. Rising from the sides of your feet makes no sense! 😂

"The sensations are intense" - I think they mean it hurts!

I can do it with my left leg against the wall really feel the stretch in my quad. But no chance with my right leg against the wall.
