Blood test result.. to worry or not? CRP

Had bloods done this morning and they have come back on NHS app this evening. All of them are fine apart from Serum C reactive protein level. Normal range is 0-7mg/l and mine is 18.

Can anyone explain if this is significantly high or not too bad? I've googled but it's a bit of a minefield.

For context I went to the GP as I feel I have a systemic inflammation problem that has been rumbling for years.

Hi OP, 18 thankfully isn't high. Have you had a cold or any other illnesses recently? They can raise your CRP a little. When I had sinusitis badly in September, I had a blood test done (not specifically for that) and my CRP was 27.

Thank you for replying. No, not been poorly recently at all. Hopefully I can speak to them tomorrow and find out what they think and go from there.

It’s not panicky high. CRP can go over 400 in severe infections. It may mean recent infection or inflammation. It’s not a specific marker but would be consistent with something rumbling.

I had raised CRP and ESR when going through a gallstone flare. I had to keep going back to get rechecked and the levels dropped as my gallbladder calmed down.

It’s completely meaningless without any context. Best person to advise is the person who ordered the test - they will have your history, the rest of the results and any trend in results over time.

Thank you. Glad to know it's not very high in the grand scheme of things.

My crp was 200 last week, I was given antibiotics. I don’t think 18 is worrying.
