Any Asda employees know? Return without a receipt

sorry for the extremely boring thread but does anyone know if I can return/exchange a clothing item at Asda without a receipt? Someone kindly bought a dress for DD but she’s not a dress fan and I don’t want to offend the giver by asking for the receipt. The tags are on. Their website says “on selected Asda branded items, it isn’t always necessary to have your receipt. We will refund at the current selling price and onto a gift card” but wondered if anyone who works there knows if that would apply to clothing and she could choose something else.
