www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11651033/Julian-Sands-65-named-hiker-went-missing-San-Gabriel-Mountains.html

British actor and 'A Room with a View' star Julian Sands, 65, has been named as one of two missing hikers in California's San Gabriel Mountains.

Hope he and the other missing joker are soon found safe and well.

Just to add that the two hikers were not hiking together and it’s two separate searches.

Oh no, that doesn’t sound good 😢 I love Room with a View, a real coming of age film for me, and I will always have a very soft spot for both him and Rupert Graves. Fingers crossed there’s a good outcome here 🤞

Noooooo! Not Julian Sands?!

And what, he's 65? How's that happen? He's still a beatuful 25 to me.

I was surprised that he is 65! Where did the time go?!

Missing for five days in bad weather sounds awful.

I didn’t know he had children and now a grandson. The photo of him with his grandson is lovely.

I thought so too. A real sense of him being a decent family man.

The terrain he is missing in looks beautiful but I can’t imagine how one would survive if not adequately prepared -

How awful for both of them and their families. The San Gabriels are better to be lost in than the Sierras but right now they are icy after all of the rain they’ve had. They are also full of mountain lions, which is a concern.

California is really good at rescuing people from their mountains, cliffs, and oceans though so hopefully they’ll be found safe soon. As long as they were dressed appropriately they should be able to hold on for rescue for a while.

I grew up near Mt Baldy (actually, the 'official' name is Mt San Antonio). There are areas of trail around Baldy that have steep drop offs with loose rocks and when snow gets on those trails the edges can be camouflaged and make things very dangerous.

The area isn't 'full of mountain lions', you'd be more likely to encounter a black bear than a mountain lion. Of course, an encounter with either should be avoided. Carry bear spray and make lots of noise. Unless you're between a mama and a baby or between a critter and a carcass they're more interested in avoiding you than you are in avoiding them.

I hope Mr Sands was prepared for the weather and knowledgeable about the area. The S & R teams in the area are top notch so I believe he'll be found.

Yes I saw this, how awful

💐

EmmaEmerald · 19/01/2023 01:58

Oh lordy
I hope he's okay

did the weather catch him out or was he used to it?

crossing everything here.

Msgrieves · 19/01/2023 02:01

I was just reading about one of his films today. Hope he is found.

KillingMeDeftly · 19/01/2023 10:09

Oh that's so sad. Julian in RWAV and Cary Elwes in Princess Bride were my obsessions in the early 90s.

KillingMeDeftly · 03/02/2023 15:12

It's been 3 weeks now, and it seems unlikely that he'll be found alive. How very sad.

Jebboo · 03/02/2023 15:56

I just watched arachnophobia, I'd forgotten he was missing.

The telegraph is reporting a find of human remains in the area that he went missing in. It will be a few days until they are identified but the suggestion is that they are his remains.

Just seen that.

How terribly sad.

Whoever it is, may he or she rest in peace. Also that knowing brings some inner peace to their family, and they can have a funeral and mourn.

Confirmed as him according to news pages .
Sad news.

DrownLoad · 27/06/2023 21:18

That's terribly sad. I hope that he didn't suffer but I'm glad that his family are able to hold a funeral for him now.

Sad news.

Really sad news, I'm glad for his family and friends though.

HundredMilesAnHour · 27/06/2023 21:22

How incredibly sad. Such a talented man. It must be an immense relief for his family and friends after thinking he would never be found but such a loss. I hope he didn't suffer.

Labtastic · 27/06/2023 21:24

What a very sad way to go. George Emerson was my obsession back in my teens. RIP
