Been playing Roblox with DS recently

This is a bit of a difficult one to admit but at first I was wary of this Roblox game my son loves playing, especially after a lot of other users replied to my feed saying it was a bit dodgy etc.
But last week my DS begged me to try playing it with him and I gave in because I didn't want to upset him and I actually found it was a really enjoyable and creative game that I now don't really have a problem with my child playing.
I must confess I've even created my own account to play on and sometimes play when he has gone to bed! Any other Mums enjoy playing this game? It feels like a bit of a guilty pleasure now

What do you play on Roblox? There's literally thousands of games on it?!

We've recently been playing this one game called Adopt Me lately, you just hatch these cute pets and collect them. DS absolutely loves it!

After listening to this documentary on radio 4 about Roblox, I wouldn’t go anywhere near it. the testimonies of the kids in the podcast were heartbreaking. It sounds like a completely unregulated platform on which young people are sometimes targeted. Here’s the link to the podcast: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001ddtn

We love roblox. Play adopt me and Brookhaven most often.
I have no issues with the kids playing it at all

I couldn’t even make a character move in a straight line when my kid asked me to try it, so I found a new respect for her dexterity when playing it. We’ve used the parental controls to bar the messaging function.

Ha ha yes me too!
To be fair, playing Roblox with your child is a really good way of seeing what they do on there and helping them stay safe. So don't feel guilty!

icanwearwhatiwant · 18/01/2023 21:36

Airport Tycoon is my favourite "guilty pleasure"

The game Roblox is not a problem. The problem is the people they play with could be anyone and undesirable types do use the game to contact children. Make sure he is fully up on his Internet safety, dont give out your real name age, where you live etc etc.

I think it's great that you immersed yourself in your son's interest to see what it's all about. Both of you playing together is probably a good way to keep things safe and for him to learn about what kind or behaviour online are red flags (scams etc) which is good preparation for when he's older and not on the same sites as you.

I learned how to play Minecraft because of my kids and found it surprisingly fun. Ds has some of our creative worlds still saved years later.

So many kids have names like Ryan2015 which gives away their age and name.

I play Roblox with DD1. We play Brookhaven, or obbys/quiz games.

Soubriquet · 18/01/2023 21:46

I quite like playing it too

My two favourite games are rainbow friends and red light green light

Pascha · 18/01/2023 21:54

I don't play but my sons do. Ds2 is just 10 and he plays Doors, Supergolf, Bedwars and Bee Simulator. Up until a few months ago his settings were locked down with no chat at all, now we allow him to chat to friends only. His friends list is about 15 long and the rule is he has to prove who they are in real life before he can have them on there. Almost all are classmates and the others are cousins.

It's quite safe as long as you implement the privacy settings and monitor the friends list.

Username6194 · 19/01/2023 05:29

As long as you disable chat settings and only allow real life friends to be on there, it's fine.

My kids love this. They go crazy on it. I'm sick to death hearing about it. No seriously I'm sort of pleased but wish they'd stop asking me for Robux

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 19/01/2023 06:38

I play with my teenage dc too. Adopt me, bloxburg and mm2 are the main games we play. As gaming is one of their main interests I feel it's important to understand fully what they are involved in, plus it means they will quite happily spend an hour with me in the evening after the younger ones have gone to bed.

OfcourseSpringRoll · 19/01/2023 07:49

I game with DS though not Roblox as people have mentioned it is all about privacy settings in games. Many parents have no idea how to set up platforms correctly. DS is an adult now but my rule was always only people he knew.

Yes my DD loves games on Roblox. I often pop on when she's at school to have a go and figure out what it's all about. Did the same with Minecraft when she was into that.
