Best energy company for customer service

Assuming all companies at the moment are the same price due to the price cap, which is the best company for customer service?

EDF is an absolute shit show. Can't answer their phones or send the right engineer for the right job.

Outfox the Market took a formal complaint before they would send a final bill.

I have limited shits to give. Please tell who I can switch to to get a working smart meter?

I'm with Sainsburys and not had any issues
They've arranged for someone to come and fit smart meters and will pay me £50 per meter
They couldn't come recently and gave me £30 as an apology!

I've always found British Gas pleasant to deal with. They really helped me a few years ago when I needed copies of my energy bills for a benefits application. The ones they sent by post got lost and they didn't used to email them (10 years ago) but made an exception. I was days away from not being able to feed my daughter and needed the application sorted so they helped me loads under the circumstances

Not Scottish Power! It is impossible to get hold of anyone.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 18/01/2023 15:42

Have moved from People's Energy after they went bust to British Gas, who were dreadful - on hold for ages to speak to someone, kept getting cut off.

They then ended up taking £1,000 from bank account without any warning.

Now with Octopus who seem much better. Way more accessible online account, and they answer the phone.

EDF are terrible especially if you have moved into a property. They decide that you are lying about your bills so make up direct debit amounts so you are in hundreds of pounds of credit.

Scottish Power and e-on can't bill properly, and it is a fight sorting it out.

When I was British Gas I was actually OK. They actually refunded me the credit in my account without me asking them. I just didn't want a smart meter imposed on me and they chased me by every means possible to try to get me to have one.

SO Energy will answer the phone but won't do anything about your issue. So you have to email them and then make your complaint public before they deal with it.

The rest on the list I haven't been with as they were always charging too much.

OVO are truly awful.

hothands · 18/01/2023 16:47

British Gas are shocking. We had a problem with them and not one of their customer service people would sort it, or even try. Tried phone, webchat and social media several times over the space of about 5 months and in every instance were told a variation of 'computer says no'. Had to go to the Obudsman in the end where it was sorted the day after but it shouldn't have even got that far (and it was their mistake to start with).

pissssedofff · 18/01/2023 16:56

I ve a list as long as your arm with Octopus, its hard to imagine any company could be worse.

But all these crooks have us by the balls, they can do as they wish, we in the uk are being rinsed by pretty much everyone, not least supermarkets and fuel.

Energy in Germany is falling (almost by 12%) their inflation is down to 8.6%, 5.9% in France.

Ours is higher because over 50s wont work... utter bullshit.

Fairyliz · 18/01/2023 17:06

Let’s be honest they are all shit. Lots of people wfh with no idea what they are doing.
Every single person I know has had a problem with their energy supplier in the last year; so you might as well just pick one and save your energy for the inevitable problems.

That is exactly what my issue is! Previous owner used X amount so ours set at that DD level. But that's not us! It's not our last usage! I have now got it set at £20/mth more than my old house but they wanted it set at £140/mth more!

So I wanted a smart meter fitted so I can monitor my usage at my new house. Waited 2 months and a shitshow of a visit. I have no smart meters fitted.

I find octopus to be really good. Never had an issue. You read your meter, send in readings, and they calculate your bill immediately. You can pay a fixed amount on DD or just the cost of what you use. Which is what I do.

NotLovingWFH · 18/01/2023 20:47

we were with Octopus and they were great. Have moved to Sainsburys and they’re also very good though their website is not quite as user friendly and there’s no app yet. For both I always messaged via messenger (on FB for Sainsbury’s) and always get a quick response.
