Hi all,
So had an email to say two confirmed cases of strep a in my child's class!
I have asd and alot of anxiety so I find it difficult to know if I'm over reacting, I didnt want to send my DC in today but I did do, as I don't want DC to pick up on my anxiety.
But I'm really hoping my DC doesn't get it, so anybody who's had cases of strep in your child's class, did your child get it from school too? I know it's very contagious and all I wanted was to keep him off today, but I guess it could take weeks to work it's way through the school and we could pick it up anywhere, am i overreacting?

There was a confirmed case in my sons school before Xmas it's a special school so they had to inform all parents ,I wssent anxious untimely got the Letterman email telling me not to panic🙄
he didn't catch ,I know it's worrying but most children will be fine I had strep.throa t,numerous times throughout my childhood and on occasion as an adult ,which was treated very effectively with penicillin.

Thank you @x2boys for replying! I'm glad your son didn't catch it, and was ok! It's hard as I just want to keep my dc home, but that's not practical, and I know it's not the right thing to do.
I keep thinking of the poor parents who have lost children due to strep, I know it's rare but it's tragic.

My son is 2 and is just finishing his antibiotics for it. He wasn't actually in childcare for 6 weeks - I kept him off the weeks before Xmas to avoid catching it ! And he caught it while we were in center parcs last week. He bounced back quickly. High temp at the time , swollen glands , white spots on throat etc all seem to have cleared now , day 7 of antibiotics.

For the majority of children it is pretty mild, not very nice but sorts itself out quickly with antibiotics. I was super anxious like you. Try not to worry and if they show any signs get them checked x
