Weird rib pain - what the hell is it?

Hoping someone knows what this is, before I go through the ordeal of trying to get a GP appt! About 5 nights ago turned over in bed and suddenly got a pain in my lower ribs, right on my left side. Went away when I turned over. But it now keeps happening whenever I lie on my LHS and I feel like when I'm breathing, there's like a "bubbling" noise where the pain is? But I'm not struggling for breath or anything, cos it's only on my side. Don't want to go to gp incase it's trapped wind, which would be v embarrassing! It's so weird!

I've had this on and off for almost a decade now and never got to the bottom of it - if you Google it (or search on MN) lots of other people seem to suffer from it, too, and are fobbed off to a greater or lesser degree.

I have never gone down the full investigation route because it doesn't bother me to that extent, but I have read other people's accounts of various procedures.

Explanations seem to range from IBS to h.Pylori to hernias to GIDS and everything in between, but I've never come across anything where there was ever a satisfactory explanation or resolution.

In my particular situation, I think it began shortly after I had major abdominal surgery and I sometimes wonder if it has something to do with adhesions, but as I say, this is pure speculation on my part, as I've never chased it.

I also have poor digestion (acid reflux, indigestion etc) and have had since my late teens / early 20s (I'm 43). I tend to keep on top of things by self-medicating with the occasional OTC 7/14-day course of omeprazole.

I wish you luck in finding out more than I have!

Thanks! That's not something I'd even considered!

i have this too! dont have pain as such but a discomfort around my left ribs going around my back. starts early evening and i honestly believe people must be able to hear the noise or feel it if they put their hands on my ribs (apparently they cant). what IS it? i have been frantically googling collapsed lungs and all sort, but its too low down to even be from my lungs.
