Kids Paracetamol Suppositories - Can anyone abroad help

This is a bit random but...DS is a monster for keeping calpol (or any meds) down. We visited a friend in Holland who couldn't understand why we didn't give suppositories as they are commonplace there. So I stocked up and they've been great. However we've now pretty much run out and obviously DS is sick. High temp and vomiting and just threw up the nurofen I gave him. I've looked online and UK pharmacies want £24 for 10 Confused they are pennies in Holland. Is there a Good Samaritan somewhere in the EU that would post me a bundle? I would obviously pay. Or can anyone translate a Dutch online chemist (I've found some) and tell me if they deliver to England?

Any help would be much appreciated.

This site seems to include English as one of the languages. www.dutchexpatshop.com/en/albert-heijn-paracetamol-suppository-for-kids-120-mg.html

Call them, Dutch people mostly speak very good english. They are very common in Scandinavian countries as well and they obvs speak good english too but may be more expensive than in Holland. Good luck

BaronessBomburst · 18/01/2023 09:32

DM me your address. I can pop some in a jiffy bag and post them this afternoon.

staybyyou · 18/01/2023 09:32

Thanks @weathervane1 they deliver for about £15 I think, so that will definitely work out cheaper

We get them on prescription from our UK gp as ds refused calpol until almost 4.

whataballbag · 18/01/2023 09:36

Ah I could have dropped you some off. Our GP prescribed them for medicine refusing DS. Might be worth a go!

Mamoun · 18/01/2023 09:36

Are you in London?
Make me feel pharmacy sells them.

Mamoun · 18/01/2023 09:37

Sorry Make me Feel sells the french version (doliprane is the brand). The shop is in Clapham but I believe they ship.
Give them a call.

staybyyou · 18/01/2023 09:39

@whataballbag our GP refused last month to prescribe them for my older DS, so I’m not going to waste my time again going down that route. She looked at me like I was mad/weird for asking. Thank you though

How strange! Ours made a point of saying 'this is the norm in Europe I can't see why it's not the done thing here' so much easier

Caspianberg · 18/01/2023 09:41

If you go to any pharmacy in the uk and ask at counter they should have some or can make the correct dosage for your child’s age

we have the opposite. Live abroad, hate the suppositories and get calpol bought over when family visit.

staybyyou · 18/01/2023 09:46

@Caspianberg I did this and they wanted £30, even the pharmacist said 'it's quite expensive isn't it!'.

OP posts:
staybyyou · 18/01/2023 09:47

@Mamoun thank you, I'll check them out. Do you know how much they are in the shop?

OP posts:
staybyyou · 18/01/2023 09:48

@Caspianberg maybe we can do a bi annual
swap of meds

Well tbh even here they aren’t super cheap. Hence we get calpol from uk. A pack of suppositories or liquid paracetamol that tastes horrible would be €16-20+ depending on brand.

Caspianberg · 18/01/2023 09:51

It’s also hard now to ship. Most postal couriers or online say no import or export of medicines into Eu country. Ie we can’t buy calpol in uk and get family to ship, as will be confiscated at import

Caspianberg · 18/01/2023 09:53

@staybyyou - if yours is over 6 years, have you tried those calpol fast melts?

henrilechat · 18/01/2023 09:56

I bought paracetamol suppositories nearly 5 years ago from our local pharmacy. They weren't weirdly expensive then. Have you rung round a few nearby pharmacies to check? I'd had them prescribed for my eldest when he had tonsillitis so just bought some when I had my second, seemed like a much better idea for newborn vaccinations than calpol.

BaronessBomburst · 22/02/2023 13:10

@staybyyou have you seen my DM?

Update: I bought a couple of boxes from the local supermarket and gave them to a trucker to post on when he got to the UK.
We're now a couple of weeks on and he's had the parcel returned by Royal Mail as "Addressee Unknown".
The OP gave me her address, but not her real name so the parcel was addressed to her MN username.

I'm now trying to contact the OP so we can resend the parcel.

staybyyou · 22/02/2023 15:12

Sorry @BaronessBomburst I've just seen your update!!! Will PM you! I'm still here...plus my DS has just had scarlet fever so I'm even more desperate

OP posts:
BaronessBomburst · 22/02/2023 15:51

Thanks for the PM. We'll resend.
Hope DS feels better soon, poor sausage.
