Edinburgh cafes

Could someone please recommend a cafe in Edinburgh for a nice breakfast that opens early on a weekday for a family who will fresh off the sleeper train and looking to fortify ourselves with more than the train breakfast before we can get into our accommodation.

I found a few on Google maps that looked really nice but none seemed to open till 9. We get chucked off the train at 8 so would love to have somewhere we can head for right away.

Not a cafe but we stayed at the Market Street Hotel which is adjacent to the station and the breakfast was amazing and on the top floor with a great view. I think non-residents can go.

Or you could try the Balmoral Hotel which is also next to the station. But pricy I'd guess.

There's also a Premier inn in Rose St near the station.

Or get the bus or a taxi out to Portobello beach, there are some lovely cafes there.

Getting carried away now remembering our wonderful trip, you'll have a great time!

I second Loudons. It's nearby and really good for breakfast.

I also rate Dishoom for a great breakfast naan. That's not far from the station.

We have a Airbnb on Johnston Terrace.

Thank you for all recommendations. Will check them out. This isn't till April but I'm excited and planning ahead!

There is Weatherspoons just above the station on Waverley Bridge, Edinburgh Larder on Royal Mile.

Just off royal mile is the Edinburgh larder, stumbled on it by accident. Locally sourced food and were lovely with my 1 year old, which really helped dining without other adult. Even the toast she had was super!!!

@DappledThings ah so near Grassmarket. Here are some recs

L'Etoile Salon de Tea (the bookstore Armchair Books is just down the block if you want to kill some time)

BRAW BRUNCH

Pirlous (It’s small though)

Definitely yes to Dishoom. That’s a great way to start your day!
