DS (single, early 20's) has just got a new job in Hinckley. We're from further south and don't know the area at all. He's looking for somewhere to live.

Any recommendations for areas that he should check out?

@happynewyear55 thanks for the info! Any thoughts about why quite a few houses seem to be for sale in Westfield Road /Strathmore Road and future developments near there?

I don't live there anymore but I don't think there is as far as I'm aware- but every time I come home to Hinckley there's always new developments so I wouldn't say never.
That area is pretty nice! And not too far a walk into town.

Not much room for development behind Strathmore/Westfield road I wouldn't have thought with the railway line and then the DPD depot behind it? I can't think of any substantial developments that side of Hinckley, there's the new one on the perimeter road side and potentially some big chunks in Burbage too.

I couldn't live in Nuneaton because the road network is dire, I've worked there and have family in the area and there's no good way in or out. That's not going to get any better with all the new houses on the A5 side of town. Having said that I think you've got a better chance of landing on a half decent secondary school in Nuneaton than in Hinckley. If you need that then Burbage is the way forward as you'd really want to be at Hastings High.

I don't think many people would recommend Bedworth to be honest, Bulkington nice but not a huge amount there. If you're looking that far south you might as well look at Kersley and places like that.

South Leicestershire villages I'd say instead. Maybe Blaby which has got supermarkets and stuff and isn't far from Fosse Park or the city centre really. I'm not a fan of Hinckley as you have to travel to do most things.

Nightlife in Hinckley is very poor these days. I grew up there, went to Redmoor & JCC. The area near JCC is nice & I believe Wykin is better than the old days & there are some newbuilds opposite the old Wykin estate. It's still a nice town, but if he's a young man wanting a good nightlife he'll be disappointed.
I went out in Hinckley last night for the first time I over 30 years & it was like a ghost town. Other towns were packed because of the coronation celebrations, but Hinckley was dead

Wykin estate is lovely
It has a open park with children's play park a wildlife area's. Wykin park is popular with Wind surfers and drone enthusiasts. With a community club, two shops, 2 schools it has most things within walking distanc. its horseshoe shaped design, it's unique in Hinckley and stands out from the rest of Hinckley on a map. The bad reputation comes from truly ill informed and frankly, very opinionated people. Wykin estate and surrounding area is lovely
