DH and I were discussing the concept of having a sore stomach - DS8 was complaining of one (he's fine)

DH reckons a sore stomach is indigestion

I reckon a sore stomach is more like needing to poo

We consulted a diagram of the body and now I realise that yes, I'm probably describing sore intestines.. but no one says they have sore intestines, they say they have a sore stomach, don't they?

DH is now looking at me like Hmm but I'm also looking back at him like Hmm

Please share your thoughts, wise owls.

Pretty much anything in the alimentary tract could be described as sore stomach in this house - indigestion, wind, nausea, constipation, aching womb. If it happens below the neck and above the thighs, and is vaguely to the front and centre of the body, it’s covered. We are not medically qualified 😁

‘Tummy ache’ in our house could be anything from indigestion to constipation and would be diagnosed by asking a series of questions to ascertain its exact location or probable cause. That’s what doctors do too, diagnose by taking a history and a process of elimination. So a ‘sore stomach’ would be general area and could be either. Deffo wouldn’t say ‘sore intestines’!

I would say bad stomach for stomach and bad guts for lower.

This is helpful!

DH is still adamant that "having a dodgy tummy" is indigestion and not possibly an indication of toilet troubles.

I've just asked him about period pain and he assumed we could actually feel our ovaries rather than lower tummy/back cramping.

Give me strength. 😂

In my house can be hunger and also sadness, or upset too

Hillrunning · 16/01/2023 20:16

Sore stomach covers a very wide area so you are both wrong to assume otherwise. Anxiety, gas, diarrhoea, ulcers, period pain, indigestion, nausea all easily fall under tummy pain.

No I'd pretty much say a sore stomach is from the neck to the hips, like a fellow poster

He thinks people who have sore lower abdominal pain say it's "sore intestines" 🤷🏽‍♀️

If I was to follow his thinking, I'd say I've never had a sore stomach in my life. I've no idea what indigestion is. Thankfully.

In our house, a sore tummy is somewhere just above tummy button and down, stomach ache is above that -probably bra underwire downward.
