Do you pay your Hairdresser before your hair is done?

I’m planning to get my hair highlighted in a salon soon, but as I’ve not been to one for years ( previous hairdresser has changed her career), I’m wondering if it’s usual to pay before or after your hair is done?

I totally trusted my regular mobile hairdresser to give me the cut/colour I asked for, but now I’m having to go elsewhere (and quite happy to pay for what I ask for), I wouldn’t be happy handing over a good sum of money if, for example, I ask for a full head of highlights but end up with a few that are barely noticeable, or end up with a totally different blonde than the one the hairdresser agreed they would do.

I always pay after it's been done. I know some ask for a deposit when booking , normally those that work from home.

I’ve never been asked for money upfront for getting my hair done? At most I’d pay a small deposit for a mobile hairdresser.

I pay a £30 deposit, the rest payable on the day (£85 total for a cut)

I thought I’d ask as a friend had told me she pays for everything before she sits down in the salon. Although, I guess that could be because she knows her hairdresser will give her the style she wants.

I used to pay upfront as I booked through Treatwell but now pay afterwards. My new salon is quite annoying though as I either have to pay cash or do a bank transfer to the stylist directly. I’d rather just pay online beforehand!

I pay a deposit. I wouldn't want to pay the whole amount upfront either

My hairdresser has asked for a 50% deposit since covid
