Quick question - does anyone know if I buy national trust membership tomorrow, can I get a refund for a day out at NT yesterday?
First time we've been and it was great! Fancy a years membership now.
Second question - if the answer to the above is no, anyone know of any good deals?
Thank you

I think you might get a refund if you pay to get in and then join before you leave. That will not apply if you visited yesterday.

WestOfWestminster · 15/01/2023 23:17

I think probably not, because its not on the same day, but if you go back to the same venue they might kindly do it as a goodwill gesture if you ask go in and enquire about membership then ask nicely?

Newtrix · 15/01/2023 23:18

No you can only get a refund if you're already a member and forgot your card or possibly if you join that day at the place you've paid for.

We absolutely love ours and get so much use out of them. Where did you go today that's encouraged you get memberships?

GinoVino · 15/01/2023 23:23

I doubt it, you weren't a member when you went. The membership fee is well worth it though.

WoeWednesday · 15/01/2023 23:38

Thanks all, a definite no then, couldn't find the answer in Google, I was hoping it may be possible!

We went to Waddeson, for the winter light trail. It was great, and if we were members would have been free. The house is closed so wanted to go back later in the year and see inside and explore more.

I'll leave it for now and see if there are any deals in the spring. Reckon I've got just a few years before the kids are too old to want to come on this kind of day out with me!

I’m not sure you can get deals on NT membership. Although I got a free picnic rug, I think.

SeatonCarew · 15/01/2023 23:46

If you join the Scottish equivalent it's cheaper. 😉

Smidge001 · 15/01/2023 23:49

I also don't think they ever do deals on NT membership, but it really is great value. I highly recommend.

BrutusMcDogface · 15/01/2023 23:54

I don’t think they do deals, but I pay £11.15 a month for my whole family of six. It’s definitely worth it and even if we don’t go for a few months, it’s our small contribution to their conservation work.

Onnabugeisha · 15/01/2023 23:55

I’d try calling them and asking. Can’t hurt.

They might be willing to have your annual membership start date be effective yesterday and apply the entry fee towards it.

Onnabugeisha · 15/01/2023 23:57

Even if you can’t, they do have a deal where you get a £15 gift card if you join online and sign up to pay by annual direct debit. That might offset what you spent yesterday enough?

dontgobaconmyheart · 16/01/2023 00:49

As @Onnabugeisha pointed out - if you sign up via their website and pay by direct debit you'll get a £15 voucher which would go some way towards what you spent, and be nice for a little treat in the cafe or shop.

We don't currently have one and don't renew it yearly. The first year we got it my goodness did we make a point of getting our money's worth and it felt like such good value, especially as we signed up on the day we visited so effectively got 'free' entry as a result without any payment even having yet been made. The entry prices at full price are very high at some properties IMO and I can't see how they would be accessible for some. After a while fatigue set in and everyone got a bit fed up of going towards the end of the year so I didn't renew, left it a year and then signed up again the following year in late spring/summer to make sure we had use of it the next year in nice weather.

Waddesdon great!!

We have a family membership which I pay £11.15 a month for. We holiday a lot in the UK and use it regularly at the houses and NT beaches. Definitely get our monies worth. I have two kids under 7 who also enjoy it.

Answering your question, you can only get a refund on the same day you go.

WoeWednesday · 16/01/2023 09:37

Thanks, I think I need to change my view from cheap day out to even if we don't go much at least I'm making a contribution to conservation. Waddeson was £40 for four of us, so if we do go again would definitely be worth joining for a year.

Choose your time for joining - if places you would like to visit are closed until the season starts again in March time, that might be a good time to join, then when you're more familiar you'll get the best out of it next winter top.
The NT app is great - shows your location and which properties are nearby. Great on trips.

Onnabugeisha · 16/01/2023 14:52

NT membership also gets you free entry into NT for Scotland places too.

SteggySawUs · 16/01/2023 14:55

Most surprising use of our membership was getting free parking at some beach car parks last summer! Also car parks for nice woodland walks.

sara746 · 24/04/2023 16:49

I would definitely recommend investing in a membership, it is so worth it. When I signed up I found some discounts online, I found these national trust discount code's when I was looking for a friend of mine recently so definitely worth a look to see if you can save some money! 😁

EyesOnThePies · 24/04/2023 18:31

15% off in Cotswold Outdoors with a NT card, too.
