Airtag as a dog tracker?

Has anyone used this and found it beneficial?

We have a Westie who has very poor recall .....

Then don’t let them off the lead.
You can’t use an AirTag in lieu of having your dog under control.

@StrikeandRobin I never let her off the lead at all unless its in a secure dog field - but sometimes she has been known to do a houdini from the garden! We've found the hole in the fence and repaired it - but I'm just thinking thos could be a belts & braces option

We have a Tractive

air tags are only any good if people with Apple devices are around

You can set them up to tell you if your dogs leaves the perimeter of the house too

They'll only work if there are any Apple devices nearby.

A Tractive collar is what you need.

Get a tractive tracker. Less than £40 on Amazon and a year's GPS subscription is about £60.
My dog is pretty reliable but we go off in the fields and woods a lot, and I can't guarantee that one day something won't spook her, even though her recall is pretty good.

It also allows me to see where she goes with my dog walker on work days, you can set perimeter fences to alert you if she tries to go out of the garden. And should something happen and she somehow got lost... I could track her every step in live mode and find her.

Worth every penny!

Does the Tractive tracker count steps like a pedometer? My dog has great recall so no issues there but I'd love to know how much ground he covers on our walks. Springer spaniel so 1.5 - 2hrs exercise per day. If i do 20k steps i always wonder how many he does!

StillMedusa · 16/01/2023 23:14

I'm not sure about steps (never looked tbh) but you can see how many miles/km he's done, where he has run most.. it has a heat map which is rather cool to see!
