I have bad ocd and anxiety which I'm on medication for, I am 15 weeks post partum and when baby was born we had brand new carpets fitted, never thought anything else of it. Husband is currently sorting out my walk in wardrobe as it's a tip and has put down some of the cut off of the carpet we had left over and has glued it down with carpet adhesive. So thats made me abit worried because of the fumes. I've gone down a rabbit hole now about vocs etc and worrying myself silly that I've exposed my baby to all these harmful chemicals right from when she was tiny !!

Am I allowing my anxiety to take over or is there any truth in this ???

I'm pretty sure the carpet we got is one of those eco friendly ones but can't quite remember !! Hate anxiety!! Please be kind as I know I probably sound like a nutter but I really can't help the way my brain works sometimes

@davegrohll lots of things are all over google! You'll find that the earth is flat is some corners of the internet

You know it's the anxiety so I'd probably talk to the GP about that and not carpets

Why is it all over google ? 😩

Because you are actively seeking out bad health news due to your anxiety

What on Earth

Yes, high levels of VOCs are not great.
The levels of VOCs from one domestic carpet replacement are tiny in the grand scheme of things. Your baby will be fine. This is not the level of exposure that is of concern.

OneFrenchEgg · 15/01/2023 13:50

You need to sit with your anxiety on this one. Trust someone else on whether it was safe, as they are not impacted by ocd. Your dh decided it was safe and he has your baby's best interests at heart.
Keep going with your ocd therapy it's a terrible illness. Stop googling, stop seeking reassurance. Much love.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 15/01/2023 13:59

You've posted this before op. I've definitely read it before. Is this another carpet? Maybe you should stick to a different kind of floor covering if it triggers your OCD.

davegrohll · 15/01/2023 15:56

No I haven't posted about this before, I wasn't even aware that new carpets was anything to worry about !

Thank you though everyone. Ocd is horrible, i get intrusive thoughts that I try to mostly ignore but some things are harder than others to bat away...

You need to break the cycle of reassurance seeking. It only feeds the anxiety. So, no more Googling and no more threads. Remember, there will be people here who will get their jollies by feeding your anxiety. You and your baby will be absolutely fine. Otherwise there would be posters up all over hospitals “don’t even consider new carpets when having a baby”. And there aren’t.
Relax and remember, it is not a real danger, only a perceived danger.
