Vintage vs retro

What's the difference between these two terms?

If I were to google something and wanted a "retro" versus a "vintage" thing what would the results be?

I would say "retro" is anything between now and 1939 and "vintage" is older than that. My Dh disagreed.

What would you say? Bonus points for pictorial illustrations!

(Google seems to largely agree with me)

Ersatz/reproduction things can be included

Retro to me would be anything from my childhood so 70s and 80s. Vintage would be prior to that. Antique would be very old(and valuable)

Ah @MiltonRoad that Lakers me wonder when you were born and whether that plays a part!

Vintage is genuinely old.

Retro is something modern made in an old style.
