I'm terrified. Please tell me I'm being silly.

I had a smear done due to unusual spotting/bleeding & pain spanning 2 months.

Had a text through to say my results are in and I need to book an appointment to see the Dr within 2 weeks. I've had tests done before and never anything like this. I'm terrified. Does this sound bad? I'd rather be prepared for bad news than think everything is going to be okay. 😭

It's probably abnormal cells and they may need further testing. I had this once, they called and said I had severe changes and I needed to go to gynae the following day! I was absolutely petrified.
When it came back it was only moderate changes.
Please don't worry, if it was really worrying I'm sure they'd need to speak to you sooner than two weeks.

Did they do swabs as well as a smear? I’m wondering if it’s likely to be about those results?
As pp says, they’d hopefully be wanting to speak to you sooner than 2 weeks if it was something serious.

I've literally just had a smear this week for similar reasons to you, and was told that they only tst for HPV, and if that comes back positive then they send you for an appointment to have the cells checked etc, you could just have HPV, it's a super common virus but is linked to other things

Even the thought of abnormal cells scares me. I've been so ill lately so to have this come back really is worrying. ☹️

I was tested for HPV 1.5 years ago and it was neg. Only been with one (very loyal) partner - unless there's another way of getting it?!

The nurse told me that it's a bit like the chickenpox virus that once you have it it's always in your system and sometimes is active but most of the time its dormant, so when u were last test is could just have been dormant, try not to stre about it as it will make you feel worse, I've been booked a scan for next week, had bloods and swabs done, so totally understand how scared your feeling but try not to panic even abnormal cells dont always mean something sinister x

I had this a few years ago. Duly went to see the doctor who was very confused as to why I was there as the only reason I was there was because I had asymptomatic thrush. At least, bring in Scotland, I didn't have to pay for the Canesten, I suppose!

Hope your result is as minor as mine was.

Fingers crossed for you that your scan goes well. I'm going to ring first thing on Monday and see if I can get some kind of a heads up about what the results are.

Going to be beside myself until my appointment otherwise.
