Dd got a sketching set for Xmas - anyone know what this is? I feel like it might be to whittle the pencil or something but I have no real clue!

Isn't it a craft knife type thing? You slide it up to reveal the blade.

ThePoshUns · 14/01/2023 20:38

I was going to say a craft knife too

ShaunaTheSheep · 14/01/2023 20:38

Yes, you snap off the blade to reveal a fresh one.

BringOnAutumn · 14/01/2023 20:39

How old is dd? This will probably be VERY sharp.

thaegumathteth · 14/01/2023 20:40

It does push up to reveal tiny blades but everything else is related to the pencils - is it to sharpen the pencils? There are 2 pencil sharpeners roo

She's 12 but I've removed it anyways as she's unpredictable

It's a knife - like a mini Stanley knife, with a blade that snaps off at the end to reveal the next sharp bit. Need to hold it with pliers or something to snap it off to avoid a nasty cut.

thaegumathteth · 14/01/2023 20:41

Any not in a violent way! Just in a WTAF are you doing way!?

What sort of pencils? Might be some of them don't sharpen well with a sharpener?

pictoosh · 14/01/2023 20:43

It's a craft knife for paper cutting.

That's what I thought initially but it doesn't seem to go with the rest of the set iyswim

Yes, it will be to sharpen the pencils.

nighttimereader · 14/01/2023 21:49

Maybe to do highlights or other effects as in the video below:

AuroraForever · 14/01/2023 21:58

It’s for sharpening the charcoal pencils as the regular pencil sharpeners will either be too small or won’t sharpen them properly.

Thanks everyone

Artists often use these to sharpen pencils, as well as to cut paper.
