Hello got our PV cake today and it’s in the fridge defrosting. So do I take it out of the fridge in the morning to get it to room temp for the afternoon? Just thinking no one really wants fridge cold cake!

If it’s a cake with a filling or topping that should be refrigerated, then no one will want to eat it after being sat out all day. It might not even be stable at room temp & could melt/ slide off.

What sort of cake is it?

thunderstruckk · 14/01/2023 18:31

Maybe half an hour before serving?

Whatistheanswer2023 · 14/01/2023 19:03

It’s this one
Cake PV

looks like it’s a gateau

Sounds like the filling is fresh cream, so surely it needs to be kept refrigerated.

It’s fresh cream, it needs to be kept in the fridge (ex cake maker 😊)

Whatistheanswer2023 · 14/01/2023 19:55

Ok thanks so we eat it cold not room temp? Like should I take it out about 10 mins before then so it’s not too cold. Ill
let it defrost overnight. It’ll have been defrosting in the fridge for 24 hours at least.

I would take it out for longer than 10 minutes . The sponge will get a bit hard and dry in the fridge so you need to let it soften. I would say at least half an hour

DurhamDurham · 14/01/2023 20:04

Almost for £40 for a frozen cake, I'd want a freshly made one for that price.

Fab looking cake!

Definitely let it get to room temperature, very little food should actually be served chilled and its only stupidly restrictive food hygiene regulations that cause people to do so, no reason to eat chilled food by choice unless you like it that way.

Thanks I paid £50! It’s huge though. I got the next size up 8 inch.

I looked into freshly baked made similar cakes for 8inch it was £80-£90. Macaroons are expensive - it looks amazing!!!

I guess this cake was freshly baked for us just frozen for delivery!

I got that very cake for my daughters 21st! We took it out of the fridge about an hour before we ate it. It was delicious.

RobinRobinMouse · 14/01/2023 21:38

We had the blue one for dd one year, honestly one of the most delicious cakes I've ever eaten. I'd agree with others about half an hour to an hour sounds about right.

Whatistheanswer2023 · 14/01/2023 23:08

So glad I asked!! Thanks so much and pleased to hear the rave reviews!!! Yay!

I’ll comment later and let you know on the taste. There was also the collect in 8 days option with M&S for a rainbow cake but I wasn’t so organised.
