Caption- flooding in the centre of York has forced rescue workers to navigate parts of the city in boats

It's the riverside paths and the pub near the Kings Arms. The city centre itself is high above the water line .

It's so annoying when the media says York city centre has flooded. If the actual city centre floods, then York has a big big problem.

Cawood Bridge however...

Yanbu - that is such a misleading headline and photo. Such lazy journalism, all they would need to do is to check twitter!

Oh good. Thanks op. I have a rave at the racecourse tomorrow so hoping conditions are not too dire!

I've visited York a few times (love it!) and I know the city is prone to flooding. But increasingly with the BBC I find the facts don't matter...

I used to live in Cawood. That bridge floods all the time.

It’s is not, however, close to York centre.

Are they just making it up or assuming YO post codes must only be in York centre?

Race, not rave!

I just mentioned Cawood because when I think of flooding, Cawood bridge and the detour comes to mind.

Race, not rave!

I was wondering about the rave!

AnyFucker · 14/01/2023 15:41

York has well established flooding fields to prevent the city centre being overwhelmed

A weather bulletin from BBC Scotland. Kilmarnock is inland, nowhere near the sea, can't imagine where they would keep boats and pretty flat. The view from the only "lodge" (the masonic one) is the back of M&S carpark!

Did a "member of the public" send it in as a joke, and no-one at the BBC thought to check and they just broadcast it?

The York one is shocking, it is the weekend and people will change their plans due to this reporting which could impact businesses.

We pay for this lazy, crap reporting!
