Annoyed with McCain's 5 mins fries

Lighthearted !

Might just be Hormones but I am getting so pissed off with the 5 mins min fries! They never cook in 5 mins so what's the point of paying more than normal fries for them

I used to think it was my oven but just got a new oven and no still takes about 9-10 mins to cookGrin

Seriously has anyone managed to cook fries in 5 mins....

Completely agree, it's con, at least 15 minutes.

Megapint · 14/01/2023 13:56

Don't waste anymore time in these pretenders. Get yourself down to the drive thru asap.

MorrisZapp · 14/01/2023 13:57

See also those pre baked five minute baked potatoes. Fkn cardboard crap. Might as well eat the box.

You need an air fryer. Game Changer.

All oven chips lie. Even the normal ones...15-17 minutes my arse! I don't know why I never learn. We have often seem to have a chipless dinner with a dessert of chips afterwards when they're finally cooked.

The thing is, are people cooking after you preheated oven to the desired temp, or cooking it without preheating and thinking it only takes 5 mins from cold oven? That makes the difference, imo.

I'm new to the air fryer game. How long/what setting do you use?

wibblewobbleball · 14/01/2023 14:18

They're 5 mins claim is for an air fryer no?

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 14/01/2023 14:20

YANBU. What's worst is that DH reads the packet of the oven chips (every brand) and then takes them out after the time that it says ignoring the fact that they're all pale and flaccid. Then I have to leap in and turn the oven back on and put them back in until they're actually crisp, which makes me look like an unreasonable interfering passive aggressive monster.

I need to show him this thread and get you to tell him "it's not her, it's not you, blame McCains who are the real villains here."

mrsbyers · 14/01/2023 14:21

They’re so thin they are like eating sticks anyway

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 14/01/2023 14:22

(In DH's defence he doesn't tell me that I'm being an interfering monster, it's just the way I feel when I override his trusting nature).

I’m fairly new too but so far using the fan temp and halving the time seems to work 👍

SchoolTripDrama · 14/01/2023 15:00

Are you preheating your oven though?! They cook in 4 mins in my air fryer....🤷🏼‍♀️

This. All frozen potato products need far longer than it says on the packet. Just set the oven a bit hotter and leave them in until they look cooked to your liking.

Make him eat the flaccid chips until he learns to think for himself.

Always preheat the oven first

Also preheat the tray.

Asda homestyle chips in the blue bag are fucking lush.
