Something that we will all enjoy! We’ve done the obvious (Disney, the Harry Potters, Marvel). Plus we’ve all liked:

Jurassic Park plus sequels
Home Alone 1/2
ET
Jumanji
Beethoven
Indiana Jones
Mrs Doubtfire
The Sound of Music
Bedknobs and Broomsticks

There are more but those are the ones which immediately come to mind. DH and the DCs like Star Wars too but I’m not a fan.

Any other recommendations for films?

Indiana Jones. The goonies. Back to the future. Robin Hood prince of thieves (but fast forward through the beginning!) Romancing the stone and sequels. Ie all the 80s hits!

Holes. It's brilliant.

Not a film, but what about the BBC series, his dark materials?

CrapBucket · 14/01/2023 10:51

Men in Black was popular with mine at that age

Llovecookies · 14/01/2023 10:52

Also Independence Day

I second Holes. I rave about this gem all the time.

WinterFoxes · 14/01/2023 10:53

All the Harry Potter films will keep you busy
All the Studio Ghibli films too
Maybe some slightly more grown up ones for the 12 year old that the 9 year old could still enjoy like A Streetcat Named Bob or The Blind Side
Indiana Jones
Night at the Museum film series
Paddington!

Yes yes yes. That is the only film I've ever seen where the film exactly matched the way I pictured the book when I read it. And such a great story.

Tygertiger · 14/01/2023 10:55

Ooh yes. Lots of these should have been on my original list (we loved Holes, Ghostbusters, School of Rock) but some are new to me. Lots of googling to do, thank you!

Back to the future films, karate kid films. My son loved the old rocky films when he was 12 but may be too old for your 9 year old. Enola Holmes. Now you see me.

SuperPup86 · 14/01/2023 10:58

It seems like a really random suggestion but mine were the same age when we watched Lion.

They were in floods of tears (along with me) but they loved it and have both watched it voluntarily a second time since. Both say now, a couple of years later, it's one if the best things they've ever watched. I was really impressed by how well they understood it and how it made them appreciate their lives that bit more.

Forever42 · 14/01/2023 11:02

My DC are the same age and we all just enjoyed The Mitchell's vs the Machines on Netflix. It's animated but was aimed at families with older kids.
