Dull thread about eye prescriptions...

Hi all,

I was just wondering if someone could help me with my eye test results.

Last weekend, I had an eye test at Specsavers. At our specsavers, they always give you the hard sale, and it drives me nuts. Anyway, I had the test and was told by the sales associate that the optometrist had recommended varifocals.

I wondered if someone could take a look at my results and let me know their thoughts, as varifocals are pretty expensive, and I don't know if this was part of the sales pitch.

R sph -0.50 / cyl -1.25 / axis 10 / 1.50
L sph -0.75 / cyl -0.75 / axis 110 / 1.50

I also have an astigmatism, but I think the result states this.

Thanks!

You have a small distance prescription , with a reading add of +1.50. Varifocals could be worthwhile if you are noticing issues with both distance and reading close up. Useful for driving and office environments.

In my job I have to quickly see both close up and in the distance, I can’t change glasses, so I need verifocals.

You could have a reading prescription lens in one eye and a distance one in the other eye, if you prefer contacts.

I bought my verifocals from glasses direct, paid £170 for 2 pairs. And I’m very happy with them :)

I got a pair of varofocals from Asda opticians recently. I have very bad eyesight -6, so need high index lenses too. The glasses were only £80 (or two for £120).

optometrist here:
you need distance glasses driving / etc.
remove them to read.
if you want to have an option to see distance and near at the same time get varifocals
you will absolutely need them next year.
