Suggestions for a day out for 10 year olds birthday?

My lovely DS is turning 10 in a couple of months. He is young for his age, very undemanding and a real joy at the moment. I want to take him on a day out/weekend for his birthday. Location not an issue as we are pretty central.

Would love somewhere with the opportunity to make a weekend of it, something like Warwick Castle with a stay at the knights village. Just an example as we have already done this.

Could anyone suggest something similar? Maybe a theme park or similar?

Legoland? No idea on your budget.. but maybe even Denmark.

My DS loved Bear Grylls Adventure at the NEC. Indoor skydiving and cage snorkelling/scuba diving. So much there to do.

Thank you, both. We have done both of these as we are Merlin annual pass holders.

My 10 yo had the best time at the theatre in London, we went to a theatre themed diner too, and did the SkyGarden.
My younger DSs ideal birthday treat would be going to Diggerland!
We also did day passes to Butlins in the summer which was fab - great pool with slides etc, huge fairground and softplay all included, pizza buffet restaurant and various shows and paid for activities.
Chessington do short breaks where you can stay overlooking the zoo enclosures ? And the water park at Alton Towers is on our wish list to do!

Mine is the same age. Would he enjoy something like paddleboarding or kayaking? Canal boat day trip? I appreciate these are a bit lower adrenaline than the Bear Grylls adventure thing 😁

I think mine would enjoy a day trip to London and some cool history like Hampton Court Palace or similar. Theatre trip? I'm interested to see what others come up with as I'm finding this tricky, tbh!

Harry Potter Studios? Might struggle to get tickets for the dates you want though.

We took DD to London for her tenth birthday to see Matilda and sight seeing. You could make a full weekend of it etc.

I know you said you've done Legoland but have you done the hotel? Or one of the other ones other than Warwick? It is £££ and as my DS has always wanted to go and has a December birthday we did it as a combined birthday present for him and Xmas present for the rest of us.

Something else he enjoyed with his friends was immersivegamebox.com/. We are also thinking about this www.monopolylifesized.com/how-to-find-us/

Port Lympe safari experience?

BigusBumus1 · 13/01/2023 14:59

Xscape in Milton Keynes is pretty good, you have the Snozone for ski-ing or tobogganing and also the indoor sky-diving thing. Lots of hotels and restaurants in the theatre bit as well. xscapemiltonkeynes.co.uk/

BigusBumus1 · 13/01/2023 15:00

And Woburn Safari park is right beside MK as well.

PuttingDownRoots · 13/01/2023 15:27

There is also am Xscape just outside Leeds.

Do you camp at all? One of DDs favourite places is Walesby Forest.

Hi all

I am also trying to think of an idea for DS 10th birthday - 19th December… we’ve done castleford xcape the last 2 years so wanted to do something different….was thinking legoland but is this really aimed at younger children, especially at Christmas with lots of rides closed? He doesn’t like the big rides anyway so that’s not an issue, he does love Lego though! Just want to make sure there is enough to do with him (and DD 12). Never been.

also we could either do one night legoland hotel or 2 nights in travelodge in Windsor where we might get better food (he likes going to a nice restaurant) what are peoples thoughts on the on site hotels? We could do Windsor castle on the Sunday.

I like your suggestions of Warwick castle and the space centre will look into those xx

Legoland in Bilund? Several friends ihave beenrecentjy on very cheap flights from Manchester.

What's he into? History - Portsmouth Royal. Dockyard.? Tower of London? Horrible Histories Thames Tour.?

Outdoor sports - mountain biking with uplift(as it's his birthday) at BikePark Wales or FlyUp 417?
