What can I watch on TV with...

My two children. A girl 10 and a boy 8.

I'm trying to get out of the habit it then being on their tablets after dinner until bedtime so I'm looking for TV programs that we could all enjoy together that around 30 minutes long, to get one or two episodes in. A couple of nights a week we play boardgames after dinner but some nights I'm just too shattered from work and want to put my feet up, cuddle a child and stare at the telly till they go to bed.

Any suggestions of age appropriate things that aren't "too girly" or "too dull" (my son and daughters requests, respectively) We have iPlayer/4Od/itv players plus Netflix, Prime & Disney.

We used to watch The Middle

Modern Family?

Merlin..usually on Netflix or iPlayer. Horrible Histories. I heard they'd remade the Wonder Years, or the original if you can get it would be good.

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 11/01/2023 16:01

Ghosts

Outnumbered? Vicar of Dibley? Brittas Empire?

Following with interest OP.

My dd is 7 and wants to Wednesday but it's rates a 12!
Would like some other ideas we could watch but doubt there is much to be honest!

Doctor Who? Start with the the Christopher Eccleston ones, as they're a good introduction. 45 mins an ep. Scary but not terrifying for an 8 year old

We enjoyed Race Across the World when mine were that age. There are two seasons on iPlayer and they’re apparently going to make a third. They’re one hour long episodes though, so might not work for you.

Steve Backshall and Horrible Histories.

DS is 9 and we like all the cookery shows! Currently watching junior bake off, the big bake and junior master chef. Also like Lego masters Australia, the chase, the apprentice, floor is lava, some blue Peter episodes and newsround.

We also watch some live and record others that are on Saturday night so we've some to watch during the week.

Young sheldon

DS6 loves watching Pointless and House of Games on bbc with me.

Whenever I get them right (always!) he loves it and says he knew it too! Grin

Young Sheldon and when they’re a bit older Modern Family.

I thoroughly enjoyed both!

New Lives in the Wild with Ben Fogle is quite good with kids too.
