What weird woo "gifts" do you possess?

For a bit of fun, what weird woo gifts do you have that you/others find spooky or strange?

Mine are:

  • An ability to accurately guess large amounts/lengths. E.g. today I am making an infographic for work, I had to create an amount of text boxes to fit in a number of bullet points. I pasted a bunch of text boxes and, lo and behold, I'd pasted the exact amount I needed (this was a large number). This sort of thing happens regularly, as though I'm able to subconsciously gauge numbers.
  • Not looking at my phone for hours, then suddenly thinking "hmm I should text my dad/partner/childminder (lol)", I look at my phone then I get a call that second from them.

Scientifically speaking the most likely explanation is that I'm just noticing when these things are happening (and obviously not making a mental note of when they don't happen) but sometimes it feels a bit spooky how often it does happen!

How about you?

Love that! I went to uni with a girl who said if she thought about someone a lot she would see them or be contacted by them. Nice thought.

Less excitingly, I'm very proud of my ability to judge short distances eg 10cm

RedCarsGoFaster · 11/01/2023 10:13

I can smell sugar in tea or coffee.

Did you know that aspirin smells like salt and vinegar crisps?

Bornin1989 · 11/01/2023 10:15

@RedCarsGoFaster my SIL has a super nose! I only had one when I was pregnant - when taking the DDog for a walk I used to walk past a honeysuckle bush and I swear it was one of the loveliest things! Very jealous of your special ability 😁

Two things:

I sense when someone is pregnant. I will just think about them and 'know' it can be close friend or acquaintance.

I dream things that then happen, weeks, months or years later and they are usually just boring things, and I know the conversation I've just had was also in a dream. Evert time it happens, I think to myself that I should write it down but then I forget. It happened the other day when me and DH were talking about the building work we're having. I would have dreamt it way before it was even considered!

I can guess the time and 99% of the time I’m correct to within five minutes. Quite often it’s almost spot on.

I think it’s because I do a lot of competitive running where I’ve always got an idea of pace in my head and have gotten good at knowing what a minute / five minutes / half an hour passing feels like.

Bornin1989 · 11/01/2023 10:35

@ElsaMars I had a dream last week that my childhood best friend (we're no longer in contact) had a baby! She was really struggling in the dream. It made me wonder whether to get back in touch with her to see how she was doing (I think she was on my mind as her birthday is 6th Jan). My dad still receives Christmas cards from her dad and this time he didn't mention children or a long term partner so I think in this case it was literally just a dream.

I always know what time it is without looking, to within about 10-15 minutes.
I also have a very strong/accurate sense of smell.

OldTinHat · 11/01/2023 10:47

I always know the exact time.

I know which way I'm facing (north, south, whatever).

I have an excellent sense of direction and never need a sat nav.

disneydatknee · 11/01/2023 11:07

I always know when the kitchen timer/microwave is about to beep. It just pops into my brain that time should be up soon and as I walk into the kitchen, off it goes. I've always thought it was a bit "woo"

GenuinelyDone · 11/01/2023 11:52

Mine isn't woo, it's basic science but my body acts like a barometer and I can tell if there's going to be heavy rain or snow before it happens. Snow up to a week in advance, rain is more within a 15 minute window (just enough to dash indoors).

My aunty can always tell when someone is pregnant (early days). She takes one look and knows. It's like witchcraft!

I was only 6 weeks at my sister's wedding. I hadn't told anyone because I didn't want to be 'that' sister that took attention away from the wedding and my news could wait, she took me to the side and just asked "Does your mother know yet?"

She's done it with so many women, it's a bit freaky. Maybe she can smell the change of hormones or something.

AffIt · 11/01/2023 11:52

I have a highly acute sense of spatial awareness - I know exactly what dimensions a container needs to hold a certain amount, exactly how something will fit into a space, I can accurately gauge the weight of something by eye, I can reverse park into a space with 10cm on each side.

I used to be able to wake myself up at an exact time by thinking about it before going to sleep - no alarm clock needed - but sadly, that superpower has diminished with age.

Bornin1989 · 11/01/2023 14:15

@AffIt I wish I shared your ability to park so accurately! But when I was younger I was the same with waking up on time - since having my DD that has not been the case.

When I contact someone they say
" I was just thinking about you".
I can sometimes hear people's thoughts wierdly

FisherThem · 29/07/2023 15:18

I don't need an alarm clock. I tell myself what tune I need to wake up and I do.

Jifmicroliquid · 29/07/2023 15:21

I can smell sugar in tea and coffee, even just tiny amounts.
If there’s ever a mix up with the cups, I can sort it out.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/07/2023 15:22

I sometimes know things just before I am told, good news, bad news other peoples business whatever, can be minutes before or sometimes hours before they tell me.

Flipflops123 · 29/07/2023 15:23

I have the ability to always sleep with arseholes. Every. Single. Time.

I clicked thinking this thread would be about weird gifts you have been given! 😂

Since childhood, I could randomly think of an actor, show, friend etc and generally the same day- that show comes on, I see that actor on a show or that friend calls.

Today I was watching an old film and googled one of the actors. He'd been in 100's of movies over many years, and the google image that came up- was the exact point in the film I was watching

I have very good spacial awareness. I can imagine any room from any view- so I can imagine seeing the room from the ceiling corner, or floor looking up, or ceiling looking down etc. I can see a flat shape, and image what it will be 3D when folded up

I can navigate myself somewhere I've only been once before- without a satnav.

Gherkingreen · 29/07/2023 15:24

If I (I mean when, thank you perimenopause!) wake up in the middle of the night and guess the time before opening my eyes, it's almost always accurate within about 10 minutes.
It's a skill I wish I didn't have as am mostly very knackered but hey...

MachinesOfGod · 29/07/2023 15:25

I just have a sixth sense for when someone is a c*nt.

CurlewKate · 29/07/2023 15:29

I always know when the kitchen timer is going to go off within 30 seconds.

I can put duvet covers on in seconds. Even king sized ones.

WhoHidTheCoffee · 29/07/2023 15:30

I can also smell sugar in tea and coffee. I can smell things other people can’t. I can tell not only if there is a dirty nappy in the room but whether it belongs to my child.

I have a radar for when one of my DC is going to wake in the night. Have done since they were babies. I used to think of it as my five minute warning. I would wake, they’d be asleep next to me, I’d lie there without moving and then they’d wake to feed.

BlondeBimboGirl · 29/07/2023 16:34

I have to apply dressings for work (district nurse) and sometimes I have to cut the dressings smaller to fit the wound etc. without fail I ALWAYS cut it to the exact size and shape needed, in fact it’s been commented on by several members of staff who I’ve been on visits with.

it’s weird because I have no spacial awareness, couldn’t tell you how big a metre was etc

TheDutchHouse · 29/07/2023 16:42
