What is the most memorable moment you’ve shared with a stranger who you never saw again?

In my line of work I came across a lot of people during the worst times of their lives but this happened when I was off duty.

I was driving to my parents house when I saw an older lady laying on the footpath with blood pouring down her face. There was a huge cut on her forehead and her brow ridge was swelling up. I pulled my car across the road and asked her if I could help her or if I could call anyone for her. She refused to let me bring her to a doctor and couldn’t remember any phone numbers so I brought her to a nearby chemist and the shop assistants started to clean her up and got her tea. I felt like a spare part and left quietly.

A few months later I had to go back to the same chemist and when I approached the counter, the assistant said “It’s you!! You’re the girl who helped a woman who had fallen on the road! We’ve been looking and talking about you for months”.
She went on to explain that the lady had been searching for me for months and was referring to me as an Angel that came out of nowhere and disappeared as quick as I had appeared.
I asked the shop assistant not to mention that she’d met me. I’m not that significant of a person and I think it’s a nicer thought for that lady to hold on to instead of meeting me.

There are plenty more stories but that means more as I was not in a uniform just “doing my job”.

This seems like it could be an interesting thread OP, thanks for starting it! Sorry to see nobody has replied yet, so here is my tuppence worth. Mine wasn’t me helping someone ( well done OP), but somebody kindly helping me. It felt all the more remarkably kind in some way because I was (fortunately)not in any particular dire straits, just a bit stuck! I needed to get a bus and there was only one bus a day to this particular destination. I was a stranger in the area and a bit stressed and anxious for one reason or another. I didn’t quite have enough cash for the fare ( it was in the days before you could use a card!) and was just starting to scrabble embarrassed through my pockets and bags when another passenger came up and just paid my entire fare to the driver. She refused to take even the amount I did have, or to let me have any details so that I could reimburse her. I was really dumbstruck at her kindness and generosity and have never forgotten it. I try to remember it when I see anyone in need of some kindness and to ‘pay it forward’ as they say.

I mean this is just a replica of the original post but there's a full thread somewhere.

XenoBitch · 24/01/2023 23:23

At least 2 version of this were posted in the last week. Lots of lovely stories on them.

Yes, I got a deep sense of deja vu 😂
Op, why post it again?

PineCone74 · 24/01/2023 23:24

Ah, I see! Thanks, I’ll take a look.

determinedtomakethiswork · 24/01/2023 23:24

In the last few weeks, there have been tons of threads that are incredibly familiar yet the dates on them are current. Has anyone else noticed this?

JaneJeffer · 24/01/2023 23:26

I saw one the other day @determinedtomakethiswork but in this case I think this one was just a glitch where the OP thought it hadn't posted so did it again.

JaneJeffer · 24/01/2023 23:28

@Johnnysgirl the date of OP is the 9th. Where did you find it @PineCone74? Grin

I saw it in the ‘related threads’ section underneath a different thread. Should have realised though that it was unlikely there were no replies ( still a bit of a Mumsnet novice! 😂

Ah yes related threads is responsible for a lot of old threads being resurrected
