What will garden centres do with all their unsold christmas stock?

I popped into my local garden centre today and was shocked to see it's still piled-high with christmas stock, as if it were just getting ready for christmas. By the looks of it, nothing much has sold. What will they do with it all? They don't have storage on site as far as I can see. And fashions change each year & new ranges come out. What will they do?

Some is probably sale or return to the wholesaler, some will be sold off cheap, some may be binned? Or they may have some offsite storage.

I know our local one puts most of it away for next year.

I used to work in the gift department of a small but reasonably posh chain garden centre. Some of the more expensive bits are ordered in on sale or return. So they would be immediately sent back. Perishables and very on trend items will be reduced significantly to shift them. Anything else will be kept for next year.

We used to have 3 storage areas inside the store and several srorage containers behind the building where customers couldn’t see. You’d be surprised at the amount of storage space they’ll have.

I have fond memories of sitting outside in the August heat with a price gun labelling 300 snowmen!

Ours has a sale on with 50% off.

There's one near my mam that have 50% off. I was surprised at the level of stock remaining on 29th. But it was going fast. Did they have money off? I wonder if the will save it for next year if they have space?

One local to us sells the decorated artificial trees that have been in display at a reduced price. You can reserve one at the start of the Christmas season, and then pick it up after Christmas. They get snapped up!
