I quit my job (in a school) today and I don't have anything else lined up 😬. I'm planning to have a total rethink and live very frugally while I do that (yes, I can afford this for a while).

Anyone else?

I feel a mixture of elation and anxiety btw and wanted to share my news!

Hi @thenewaveragebear1983

I think we both fell foul of the weird thread glitchiness! Sorry for the multiple posts!

I remember job hunting and getting nowhere and it is so depressing. Not looking forward to it at all. But I can't be in education anymore. It isn't fair on me or the kids tbh as I'm not the right person for it.

Maybe office work isn't the thing to pursue either, in which case I'll need a rethink.

It depends on what you’re looking for I think. I really want hybrid or homeworking roles, but I think they are more in demand especially with online recruitment. I think I’m going to change my cv to state “administrator” rather than attendance officer as I am not sure I’m getting through the initial screening, for one of my applications I was one of 577 applicants 🤦‍♀️
I’m going to stick at it for now but I will have to broaden my parameters soon because I really do need something permanent, even if I do keep looking.

Good luck- I felt genuinely broken when i left school and really wary of returning to school roles. But as I was a teacher before then school admin, I feel like I have to start right back at square one.

Make sure your skills are up to date, and that you are familiar with modern office systems. Teaching tends to require different IT. I found some offices were a little concerned that I wouldn't be a team player, because teaching is more of a solitary occupation, on your own in the classroom, but it wasn't much of an issue.

Sign up with several agencies - it is their job to find you a job, and they will take a cut when you do work.
