Is this an ok meal?

Dh and I have a certain pasta dish probably once a fortnight, one of the dc says he doesn't like it which then sets the other one off.

Rather than make them something completely different or force them to eat it, I give them this.

Plain cooked pasta, ham or chicken, grated cheese, chopped raw veg so peppers, mushroom, cucumber, salad, tomatoes or whatever else is in the fridge on the side. They seem to enjoy it enough. More than pasta mixed with any kind of sauce.

That is a very balanced meal

BamBamBilla · 09/01/2023 18:38

Raw mushrooms?

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 09/01/2023 18:38

Pasta salad. Healthy. I see no problem with it.

Why wouldn’t it be ok? If they like it, crack on…

fatherfintanstack · 09/01/2023 18:41

Sounds good! Plenty of veg and protein.

greenspaces4peace · 09/01/2023 18:42

a pasta salad? pretty standard fare.

Lindy2 · 09/01/2023 18:44

Sounds very healthy and balanced. Cards, protein and a mix of veg.

My DC don't like pasta in sauce either. I do a similar meal for them but with less variety of veg because they are annoyingly fussy about veg too.

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 09/01/2023 18:50

Yes it’s great - carbs, protein and veg, and some fat in the cheese.

triedeyes · 09/01/2023 18:51

My kids are eating that right now. I make it for them about once a week.

TheChosenTwo · 09/01/2023 18:51

Sounds fine, as others have said it’s just a pasta salad. Why wouldn’t it be okay?

Georgeskitchen · 09/01/2023 18:52

Sounds delicious although I prefer my shrooms sautéed 😉

TheChosenTwo · 09/01/2023 18:52

Sorry, that looks like it’s a snarky comment! I just meant, what about it is making you doubt it as a meal?

MinnieMountain · 09/01/2023 18:53

Replace your protein with fish fingers and you have my 9yo’s favourite meal.

Raw mushrooms?

...are delicious and make a change from slimy cooked ones?

Cherrydropsandchocolatemice · 09/01/2023 18:56

Ha yes one of my dc love raw mushrooms, I do too!

I don't know why I'm questioning it really. It just seems so bland.

TheChosenTwo · 09/01/2023 19:00

To be fair it sounds bland af but if they turn down the meal you’re already making then they’re lucky to have this alternative!

Favouritefruits · 09/01/2023 19:03

My kids have that in their packed lunch and the packed lunch police have never told me off so I’d say it’s a winner!

salamanderturtle · 09/01/2023 19:04

Of course that’s fine… what makes you doubt it??

toocold54 · 09/01/2023 19:09

I have this most days for lunch at work with a dollop of mayo
