Cars are more dangerous than people right?

I'm starting a new job soon and will be in the office more. I'm 90% WFH ATM. The buses are ridiculously unreliable. Parking is extortionate and traffic awful. I can walk there in 35 minutes or cycle there in 10. I've bought a new bike. I was a keen cyclist in the past but not for about 7 years so need to get my confidence back.

I have 2 possible routes in. Route 1 is very busy; main roads, loads of traffic. Route 2 is much quieter; cycle paths, cuts across a park. It's my day off today and I did little test ride to the office and went Route 2. It goes through a not nice area and I felt a bit nervous about a group of men loitering in the park. Statistically it's safer though isn't it? I'll be doing the journey at 8am and 5pm.

I’d walk Route 1 tbh.
We shouldn’t have to take the least convenient route, it pisses me off that women have to make these choices, but if I was planning it, that’s what I would do.
Although, did you do your test ride at 8am? Some paths are pretty busy with commuter cyclists at that time, but quieter later on in the day.

I did my ride in the middle of the day so it's perfectly possible that it will be busy with commuters at the time I'll actually be doing it.
I can walk Route 1 but it means I'll only just make it to afterschool club on time at the end of the day and I was hoping I wouldn't have to run straight out of the door the second the working day ends.
