If you remember your Mother watching Crown Court when you were a child and wonder what she liked about it ,now it is being shown on TV again .
It will be on a channel called Talking Pictures at 2pm on weekdays .
It will be weird to watch as an adult as I remember a gloomy feeling as a toddler when it came on

Not my mum but my gran. I hope they keep the theme tune, it takes me right back to her sitting room!

bizzywiththefizzy · 08/01/2023 06:25

Well it will be the same theme tune because it's re-runs , starts tomorrow .

I watched it as a young child and it used to make me feel miserable

My dad used to come home for lunch and watch Crown Court (different world back then - I can't imagine popping home for lunch in the middle of the working day and watching tv!)

Yes to the feeling of gloom when it came on, and I had to stay quiet.

I loved it as a child. If I was off school I watched it.

I'm older so was a teenager in the 70s. Loved Crown Court which I saw in school holidays. One case a week, episodes every day Monday to Friday. The gimmick was the jury were members of the public who retired to consider their verdict on Friday and they delivered it back in the courtroom. I suppose the judge must then have passed sentence or released the defendant. I can see why toddlers weren't gripped by it! Grin

Theme tune is from a Prokofiev symphony, IIRC. It's in my head now, of course. Lovely massed brass.

Wrong on several counts! Not the whe werk, just three times a week. Theme tune was the opening bars of the Fourth Movement (Allegretto) of Sinfonietta by Leoš Janáček. Thank you, Wikipedia. 300 cases! 1972 to 1984.

PaperMonster · 08/01/2023 09:22

Oh I loved Crown Court!

Channel 82 on Freeview. Terrific. I think I will set series record. Apart from anything else, ancient gems like this are often a good way to see early performances from people who went on to be really successful.

Ooh I loved it. The jury were real weren’t they? I mean not actors and they really deliberated on what they’d heard.

bizzywiththefizzy · 08/01/2023 10:18

Yeah I have heard there is gonna be some household names who cut there teeth on this programme .
Be a bit weird though watching it as I used to sit at my Mums feet when she watched it and she's long gone .

Bump! Just about to start. I've set series record and will catch up with it at the end of the week, I expect.
