Does HRT make you fat?

Have been on HRT for a year or do now, but I feel like I'm putting on a lot of weight without doing anything different to normal.
Now I'll admit, I love sugary crap and carbs and both diet and exercise could do with improvement. But I've not changed anything to explain why it's slamming on. I don't feel I'm eating more all of a sudden.
Could this be HRT or am I deluding myself and I'm just eating too much?

I’ve been on it a year or so and put on a stone in that time. I can’t even blame sugary crap and an aversion to exercise. I have a gym membership and get my money’s worth. I eat healthy, cooked from scratch meals.

To be fair, I do think I have been eating more.

If you don’t feel you are eating more, but aren’t actually eating less, then that will be why you are gaining weight. Sadly you need less calories as you get older and if you are eating sugary crap and carbs you will likely be eating far too many calories.
Work out how many calories per day you need to stay the sam. Reduce by 20% and that will be the amount of calories to lose weight.

try inputting your daily calories in My Fitness Pal or something to see how many you are actually eating and
that will tell you why you are putting on weight. Just over eating by one slice of bread, or one chocolate digestive per day could mean nearly a stone on in a year.

Thanks both.
It's a bugger, this getting older business. I tried really hard not to over but at Christmas but the sweet stuff still hasn't fully run out!

I've lost weight on it - lost the bloated tummy and feel much better generally. Asked my doctor as I have a history of EDs and was very concerned and she reassured me re: current understandings

I've been on at year and am the same weight as last year. I'd like to lose a stone, but, I've antef,to fo that for the last 4 years

LizzieSiddal · 07/01/2023 22:31

I’ve been on it for almost two years. I’ve lost about a stone during that time by watching what I eat and swimming, although I’ve just put half of it back on over Xmas. Will be back to healthy eating once the Xmas chocs are finished.

I have gained weight until I have been given the right dose. Started on 25mcg/day for about a year, then 50mcg/day for half a year. Now on 75mcg/day and finally feel like my appetite is somewhat under control, as well as my moods.

so, for me, the menopause made me gain weight by sending my already significant appetite through the roof!!!

DramaAlpaca · 07/01/2023 22:33

I started HRT six months ago and haven't gained weight. I do have to watch what I eat now, though.

ImAvingOops · 07/01/2023 22:49

I definitely don't feel hungrier, if anything I do think I eat a bit less. But I do love my bread and cake!
Glad to hear that none of you think it's HRT related - that means I can lose it by getting myself sorted good wise, rather than it being g outside of my control.
