Calls from mobile numbers almost identical to mine

Has anyone else had this? I get a phone call from a mobile number that is almost identical to mine except from the last 2-3 numbers. I answered the first couple times, but there was no one on the other end. Just silence.

What's the motive behind these? I assume it's a scam so I block the numbers now. But what are they trying to achieve?

I had this a few months back. Identical number bar one. I saved it in my contacts and it came up on WhatsApp with a picture of a man and I'm assuming his daughter. I texted just to be nosey and also to check as I was waiting for a tradesman to call so asked who it was as I had a missed call and he replied insisting he hadn't been in touch and also pointed out our numbers were almost identical.

People can use software to number spoofing or some junk like that. Just because these ones were silent, doesnt mean they all will be. You're alerted now and if you get one that answers, just assume it's a scam I would.

I had this early last year, the same number bar one digit. I saved it to my phone, but nothing since.

There was a number neighboir thing a few years back where you call the next number to yours, hope thats not coming back

I answered a call with an identical number to mine bar one digit. I was then bombarded over the next few days with calls from that same number or very similar numbers. It's a scam. I read somewhere that some fraudsters will call you off a similar number to your own to make you think it's another local number and therefore more likely to answer it .

As others have said its a spam scam, to intruige you to pick up and make you think ooh that's familiar and you pick up thinking it's someone you know.

My experience was a bit weird. I called my friend’s number. An hour later, I received a missed call from a very similar number. I thought it was her. Saved it and looked at WA for profile pic. It was of a man. I messaged him and then he blocked me.
