Anyone good with cars? Parked car twanged

Not sure if that's the right word - like a deep metallic twang. Parked up sat in the car for 10mins engine off etc. Noise was so loud me and dd jumped out and tried to look underneath but it's absoloutley tipping down.

We are out at a venue so worrying now I may not be able to drive home - yet if we'd got out the car as soon as we got there we wouldn't have heard it! What if it twangs often?

Where did it come from? The front? It could well be the bonnet contracting, as it cooled.

Does it start OK?

I have no experience of car maintenance apart from the very basics but I wonder if it could it be the exhaust or engine cooling off and contracting ?

Underneath the middle of the car - nah I've heard cooling down noises before from the bonnet.

I've not tried the car yet - had to get inside for our appointment. I'll be needing to leave in about half an hour.

I seriously hope so! It was very loud.

Yes, it could be the exhaust, it's probably worth having it inspected, in case anything has come loose.

I think if I can drive it, I'll take it straight to our garage on the way home

That seems like the wisest course of action!

Could it be the suspension? Get out and check if the body of the cars seems lower over the wheels from the front or back. Good luck and yes try to find a garage.

Structure of the car looks the same, drives exactly the same, brakes working fine. Swung past our usual garage and he said probably a spring but it doesn't look like it - couldn't get it up on the ramp til Tuesday but he said not to worry sounds fine, just see you Tues!

My bet is a broken coil spring.
