Please help me find some knee-high boots - short person with wide calf

I'm 5ft 1 and I'm finding boots are getting longer and longer every year. I've tried on so many boots lately that have scraped the back of my knee, so uncomfortable. Looking for fairly low heels, an inch or so.

I've also gained lots of weight and I need a wider calf width - I've tried on so many boots recently where I couldn't get the zip done up.

Recently ordered some boots from Duo and was so disappointed that I sent them back. It was a pair of boots that was specifically made in a petite length so the length was fine, but the foot width was so narrow, I couldn't believe how uncomfortable it was, and even though I did measure my calf, the boots were still really tight and I still had to work a bit to get the zips done up.

I've been to several shops selling Gabor and Geox and all their boots are far too long.

Please help.

Try Simply be or Yours Clothing, they have wider fitting calf sizes.

lilachouse · 06/01/2023 20:48

No idea regarding length of the boots but Erica Davies boots for John Lewis are supposed to be designed to accommodate varying calf sizes so might be worth a try

You don’t need wider boots you just need shoe stretch spray! I have had the same problem for years with trying to find boots that would zip up over my calves (and I’m only a U.K. 10!) and my Aunty told me about this. Within three applications the expensive boots I’d bought fit like a glove.. it’s a definite trust the process!

I have same problem. If you’re short then the calf start lower down so anything cut for a long thin ankle won’t fit.

You want Hotter mystery boots, I have 4 pairs. The original ones are on ebay or I think they call them Derrymore now.

Look for boots with a slouch fit ankle.

Look for boots with a slouch fit ankle.

That doesn't help with the calf width. Also I need my ankles to feel supported.

Look at Jilsen. Lovely boots and you can order by calt width.

But what about the length?

OP posts:

Right, I've just had a look at Jilsen, there are three styles that might have suited me but they're all sold out in my size!

I'm 5ft 2 and need wider leg boots... ive got 2 pairs of knee high boots from quiz... unsure if they still do them as I've had them a few years. Don't know if that's the kind your looking for but might be worth a look

tectonicplates · 09/01/2023 18:42

I can't make head nor tail of the sizing at Simply Be. I need just a normal width foot, just with wider calves (and an appropriate length).

gogohmm · 09/01/2023 18:44

Simply be are best for wide calves. I found they are 3/4 length on me

tectonicplates · 09/01/2023 18:44

As I've just said, I can't make head nor tail of the sizing at Simply Be. Nothing makes sense.

What about Ugg boots? Or some nice walking shoes?

gogohmm · 09/01/2023 18:46

The width comes in standard, e or eee. Then there's standard, curvy, super curvy and extra curvy (check the order !) I wear a e width and curvy calf for instance. Mine were £60

SnackyOnassis · 09/01/2023 18:47

It's worth keeping an eye on the Jilsen boots you like, I have two pairs and they are beautiful, so well made and fit my short legs so well. I take the widest fitting from them and have a 28 inch leg, so have similar issues to you!

tectonicplates · 09/01/2023 18:48

What on earth does e or eee mean?

How do I know if I need curvy, super curvy or extra curvy etc?

Because I'm specifically looking for knee high boots.

Do Simply Be have a boots size guide page? I literally cannot make head nor tail of any of it.

This can work but do note chemical stretchers only work on real leather not pu or bonded leather. Simply be do wide feet co bined with wide calves- just trial and error with shaft heights though.

tectonicplates · 09/01/2023 18:53

@MenaiMna I don't have wide feet. I just have normal width feet but wide calves.

Go to jd Williams website (parent of simply be) pick a boot, on detail page click on size guide. In general standard shoes are c-d width, e are wide and so on. The size guide will show you the cm measure around widest part of calf.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 09/01/2023 19:08

Right. You've made me get off the sofa and hunt down my tape measure so I shall expect gratitude in abundance 😄

I have these boots from Simply Be. The height from the top of the heel to the top of the boot is 15.5 inches and the widest part of the calf measures 17 inches round. These are "standard calf" (but still wider than normal boots). I don't imagine you'd need more than "curvy" at most.

You probably won't want more than an "E" (relates to feet width - D is standard, E and EE etc are a bit wider.)

They may not be what you're looking for but hopefully they'll give you an idea.

They have free returns so you'd only lose one delivery charge - maybe order two or three pairs to try?

tectonicplates · 09/01/2023 19:14

@CharlotteStreetW1 (lovely street!) Thank you so much! 15.5 is way too long for me - I actually need 14 inches at the most, but that is a good start, thank you.
