Doing 1 new thing a month…

Nik2015 · 06/01/2023 19:57

This year I’ve decided I’m going to plan 1 new family thing a month.
So far I have attend a football match and a basketball match.
We also have some family holidays abroad planned.

Any other ideas?

2 adults, 1 child aged 8.

I love this idea.
Road trip? Theatre visit? Climb a mountain? Watch a sunset? Wild camp?

I love this idea too! How about visiting an observatory? Going for a walk in the dark to look for wildlife? Doing an escape room? Going to watch a comedy show? Stick a pin in a map of the UK and go there? Pottery painting? Let us know what you decide!

We went to Kielder Observatiry last year. Lovely I place.
Sadly it was cloudy so we didn’t see much. The campsite was full of midgies too!

Are there escape rooms for 8 year olds? I’ll have a look!

This is a nice idea. Maybe a zoo, farm or safari
park?

What about a Yes Day for the 8yo - you make whatever they want for breakfast, and basically say yes to everything (within reason) to what they want to do/go. You can guide it by giving a budget or giving some basic rules of can only travel 1 hr max in a car etc.

What about trying a new outdoor activity for the summer months - family bike ride, surfing lessons, paddle boarding, rock climbing etc

My dd did the Bournemouth pier zip wire when she was 8. You can go down with one parent so she went twice with each of us. It was brilliant!

Boat ride somewhere new and interesting, Classical concert with very talented children playing, stay in an interesting YHA hostel (like St Briavels Castle, King John's hunting lodge on the Welsh border), read a play out loud taking turns doing different parts (if your 8 year old likes that sort of thing), do a litter pick as a family and see how much you can accumulate and what weird things you find (this is fun if you see it as a sport... once we picked up over 200 beer cans on a quiet one-mile stretch of road near our house and the kids got really excited every time they found another one)

Great suggestion, keep them coming please.

Will defo do the bike ride, have a look at the suggested YHA stays. The yes day sounds fun too. Who knows where we’d end up!

The zip line sounds fun, have you seen the one in the cave in Wales?

Going to look at a farm visit, we haven’t been as a family in years.
