DH bought ASDA sandwich pickle and it's far too sweet :'(

What should I send him out to get after his flogging?

Branston small chunk.

Isseywith3witchycats · 06/01/2023 14:38

agree branston sandwich pickle the small bite one

SallyWD · 06/01/2023 14:48

I think chutney is much nicer than pickle.

moggerhanger · 06/01/2023 14:51

Branston piccalilli. Not too sweet and not too vinegary.

CinnamonEstella · 06/01/2023 14:52

Branston is classic. You can get Branston pickle Mayo now, not sure what I think about that.

Dd swears by M&S apple and pear chutney.

I prefer chilli jam or piccalilli myself though.

MaverickGooseGoose · 06/01/2023 14:53

Small chunk or, brown sauce.

pollina · 06/01/2023 14:55

Stokes

Annie1290 · 06/01/2023 14:57

Caramelised onion chutney 😊

CatJumperTwat · 06/01/2023 15:00

Branston Original.

FellForTheWrongUnAgain · 06/01/2023 15:01

Branson small chunk or smooth

AtleastitsnotMonday · 06/01/2023 16:38

Garlic pickle, it's quite expensive but so worth it!

jellybe · 06/01/2023 17:09

Depends on the cheese. But if it's for a nice extra mature cheddar you can't go wrong with a picalli or Braston's original.

TribeD · 06/01/2023 17:14

Surely it depends on the cheese?

A nice fig or caramelised onion chutney for a brie or goat cheese on fancy bread sandwich, but if its normal cheddar on ordinary bread then you definitely need Branston.

Stilton is fabulous on walnut bread with pear chutney just in case you've any Stilton left.

astarsheis · 06/01/2023 17:21

With extra strong cheddar...Patak's lime pickle

tobee · 06/01/2023 17:37

I like big chunk Branston but best is Mango Chutney. 😋

BIWI · 06/01/2023 17:39

Sainsbury's Piccalilli (not the sweet variant though)

Ravageur · 06/01/2023 17:39

No no no you need kimchi or at the very least pickled red onions

Itsbeginingtolookalotlikechristma · 06/01/2023 17:40

Mango chutney

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 06/01/2023 17:45

I’ve started going rogue and putting kimchi in.

Veryactivenymphomaniac · 06/01/2023 18:04

I can't tolerate bought chutney/pickles now, I find they have a strange chemical aftertaste. I've got a bit obsessed about making my own; it's quite addictive.

I nominate my marrow and ginger.

I got Baxter's tomato chutney recently and it was horrible - so watery, sloppy and bland - do not recommend.

I love a thin scraping of english mustard on the top slice along with the cheese and pickle. Cheese and pickle toasties are also great - couple of sandwich shops have told me pickle doesn't go in toasties...i beg to differ!!

BigFatLiar · 06/01/2023 18:07

Branston small chunk or get big pickled onions and slice them up and pit the slices on the cheese.

timetorefresh · 06/01/2023 18:08

I make green tomato chutney every autumn with my left over tomatoes. It's very easy for future reference. To be fair you could make it now with regular red tomatoes

Dacquoise · 06/01/2023 18:17

Tracklements Piccalilli is great, tangy, not sweet but you might have to remortgage to be able to afford a jar at the moment. Ridiculously priced..

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 06/01/2023 18:23

Can't beat piccalilli!

Asda had a lovely pineapple and chilli chutney over Christmas that was divine with extra mature cheddar.
