Repeat ordering from a pharmacy

So I thought they requested the repeat from the GP, ordered the item and had it ready bagged up for when you to get it?

How does it actually work?

Really like to understand what the process is for stuff as it's really frustrating to stand around for an hour / have to come back the next day / they will have it this afternoon but maybe that's how it works?

Gps can take 48 hours to;turn around a request, and then a pharmacy another 48 hours to get it ready. Usually it’s best to request your prescription a week before it’s you run out.

Ok so this makes sense - they request it because I said they could.
But when I go and say do you have a prescription for xyz , it's never on the shelf ready and bagged up like in the first pharmacy. They say 'can you come back in an hour' and often then 'we don't have x' and you have to queue to ask and then queue to collect.
Maybe the online one is the way forward

Ours is 3 days for the Dr to issue once they receive the repeat prescription request either from the pharmacy with their repeat ordering service or if you order online.

I just order online then 4 days later go to collect from pharmacy. Sometimes, if they’ve been busy, I do have to wait whilst they’re ‘just checking it now’ but the items are always there at least. Poor DH has the most problems & he’s got some serious drugs that can’t be delayed at all. Sometimes it’s an issue from their suppliers.

They have just introduced a text service which seems to be working well.

My repeat works as follows. I order via nhs app( used to drop a paper one into the dr surgery). I can’t get my prescription from the drs, so they ‘accept’ my request from the app, and it gets sent to my local pharmacy, who deliver. I have to give 48 hours notice which seems pretty standard
