What is Instagram and how do I do it?

About to launch myself into it today, the reason being to keep in touch with a particular group of people now scattered all over the country. At the moment one of the group updates me by whats app, and I reply, and she relays my reply to the group via instagram

But come on, I've got 3 degrees, surely I can crack this. I do have an old dormant account somewhere, I never got the hang of, but think I will try setting up a new account today

Any advice please, pitfalls, privacy, finding this group once I am on. And basically, just what is it? Thank you

I use it solely to upload photos of our dogs and photos I take of trees, rivers, countryside etc on our walks and hikes. My ugly mug doesn’t feature at all and my husband doesn’t want to appear in the photos either! 😂

If you’ve already got an account then once you’ve logged in, go to settings and choose the option to turn in into a private account.

Ask your friend for their @ (username) and for the others too. Type it into the search bar and follow them when you’ve found them.

The group will likely be chatting via DMs. DM a few of the group to say hi and that you’re on Instagram now, and I’m sure they’ll add to to the group chat. If not ask the first friend who’s currently relaying your messages about it.

Thank you - this seems relatively straightforward

Also, I’m sure you’re already aware but just keep in mind that ‘private’ doesn’t really mean private on the internet. So only post things you’d be happy for the world to see… just in case.

Oh, there's nothing complicated there, instagram is quite a popular social network right now, both just for personal use and for starting a blogging career, or for running a business.

I've got an account because a lot of stuff I follow is only on Instagram but I have never posted anything myself. The thought fills me with horror!

Hey there! Good for you for taking the initiative! It can be a great platform to stay connected with friends and family, and share moments with a wider audience. As for advice, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Make sure you read through the privacy policy and settings to control who can see your content.
To find your group, try searching for common hashtags or usernames that they may be using.
Don't be afraid to experiment with the features and filters to find your style.
Have fun with it and enjoy the journey!
