Shop opening hours

Has anyone else noticed opening hours reducing recently? Wondering if its just my area or nationwide following the pandemics/lockdowns? For example, local Homebase used to be open until 9pm - after lockdown 1 closed at 8pm and from Oct 22 now closes at 6pm. Sainsburys used to open at 7am but is now 8am. Pets At Home used to open until 8pm but now 7pm. Tesco used to open at 6am now 8am on Mondays and 7am Tues-Sat.

I dont think its necessarily a bad thing (still think we could do without Sunday opening however much I benefit from it due to my own disorganization!!) but am curious whether anyone else has noticed?

I left retail management just as this was starting

There's not enough footfall and also no extra staff. It's a money saving exercise that's all

Nice staff hours to where most needed as we were unable to recruit more once the seasonal staff left for college/uni

Also. Electric! Saves on power

I recently discovered that my bank closes at 3pm every day.....in the centre of a major city! But the one in the suburbs is open 'til 5.

That's common in January. Shops stayed opened later before Christmas. January (and February) are quieter so shops can cut down on staff hours etc to save money.
