Accounts to watch out for/avoid on Tiktok

Our eldest is starting to ask about Tiktok, we don't know much about it. If we do allow a restricted account, can we block any users we feel inappropriate?

If so, are there any obvious ones we should be looking out for?

How old is your kid?

How olds your eldest? TikTok is too saturated now unfortunately, might be better prepping them to talk to you about anything they see that makes them uncomfortable instead?

I don’t think it would be possible to block all the inappropriate ones. You can block but there are so many that come up on the for you page it’d be impossible. The problem with TT too is that the content plays before you can register what the video will be about, so you might view something you don’t want to before you have time to register it is something concerning.

She's soon to be 13. I saw a conversation about Paul Breach earlier which made me think.

She's a very level headed girl, but we've always been quite 😬 about Tiktok

You can view tiktok online on a desktop computer as you would any web address if you want, and don't need an account to do so so it's difficult to imagine she's not been exposed to it already at 13 given how popular it is with teenagers.

Does she want to make tik toks or just have an account and view content?

Some good info above.

Paul Breech haunts my for you page 😂 but honestly he's tip of the iceberg of TikTok.

At 13 though it's going to almost impossible to shield her exposure to social media. I'd say TikTok is next level but a lot of teenagers have it.

TikTok does seem to have a much larger adult user base now but that's the same for all social media things unfortunately.

I'd go with the open conversation about what she might see on there. The way it's algorithm works is the stuff she watches to the end and likes she'll see more of. I went down a Paul Breech rabbit hole now the twat pops up 10 times a day! Or parody's of him ect.

I don't know if you might be able to disable the FYP so she only sees videos from accounts she specially follows? But I'm not too sure.
