Sky tv alternatives

Our sky bill is £94 a month at the minute! I know I can phone and get it reduced down, but then in a few months I’ll have the same battle again.

We really need a new tv too so I’m wondering is there a better option?

We have Disney and Netflix and watch those a lot but we only actually watch bbc, itv, channel 4 (and the other versions of those more 4 etc)

Then the kids watch ceebeebies and Nick jr

We do like to pause and rewind as well and I like how easy to use sky q is and all from one menu.

Virgin media isn’t in our area, any ideas?

Thanks

BT tv, you can get kids channels added.

popandchoc · 05/01/2023 16:43

or now tv entertainment pass.

We just have a telly with Freeview and a hard drive and we can pause and rewind live TV. It’s free as the name suggests.Grin

We have Now TV too and have most of the programmes available on Sky with that, on demand with no adverts. I’m getting that for £3.99 a month at the moment, as I kept cancelling it before and they always come back with a cheap deal to lure you back. As opposed to paying £94 with Sky.

Oh yes, it’s the Now entertainment pass I have. I sometimes have the Movie option too - only if they let me have it for £1 a month or something on offer though as I think Sky Movies is a bit shit tbh.

Say you're gonna cancel. Then they'll do you a deal for much cheaper price.

I have a Roku stick. Love it. Would never get Sky again. Have the usual packages (Now, Netflix, Prime Video) which works out much cheaper

I bought a freesat box. It cost about 140 quid but just plugs into your sky dish. I do sometimes miss all the sky channels but like you only really watch bbc and channel 4 stuff. You still get Apps like Amazon prime, Netflix and BritBox and can pause live tv.

Yogachick · 17/12/2023 15:05

@PuppyMonkey can you record as well?

Why would you need to? Everything is on demand now - just find it on catch up. I’m always confused by friends who say they are recording stuff.

We are paying a £5 a month for "sky essentials". It's basically freeview but you keep the sky q box so can still access all the apps via that. CBeebies included but I'm sure they'd add on kids channels for you. Not sure how much extra that would be.

Gizlotsmum · 17/12/2023 15:22

We’ve just gone to freesat. Box can pause/rewind and record. We have Disney, Amazon, Netflix and it’s been a month and I haven’t missed sky at all! We can also get now tv passes if we really want something else

That’s good to know, I’m out of contract in February and was going to cancel as at this point we are paying the best part of £100 per month (which does include broadband & mobile) to use the sky box to access Disney+, prime, Netflix & Apple TV+. Good to know I could keep the box as we have purchased movies on Sky store that we would lose if we didn’t have Sky anymore.
