London/Legoland Recommendations

Thinking of a trip to London with two kids (six and three). I've spent a lot of time in London so am pretty comfortable with where to stay, what to do with the kids while I'm there etc but one thing my oldest really wants to do is a trip to Legoland and it's here I come unstuck.

We'd have 4 nights in London I think, arriving late afternoon on Day 1, so I'm thinking the first two full days in London itself and then the third a day trip to Legoland then back into London in the evening - would that work?

Or would I be better sacrificing the final night in London and staying overnight at Legoland (bearing in mind we wouldn't get a full day there on the second day as we'd have to leave to get a train oop north at some point!)

Does he want to go to Legoland because he likes Lego or because he likes theme parks?
If he is more about the Lego then a trip to the Leicester Square Lego Shop will be much more fun.

I hate legoland so much. It’s dirty, busy, the rides are crap, it’s on a hill so a nightmare to get around and the food is awful. Avoid if you possibly can.

Legoland isn't high on my to do list, either, but he's really keen and has been looking at YouTube videos etc for ages. I suspect we'll have to go to the Lego shop too...
