Does heartburn/indigestion feel like you've just done a sambucca shot

I have had this weird burning feeling for a few days. It's like the feeing after doing a sambucca.

I don't know if it's coming from my lungs or stomach.

Can anyone help, I am panicking a bit.

(Non smoker, 33 years old, generally fit and healthy)

Yes it does. Try taking some antiácids such as rennies and see if it helps

user294858 · 05/01/2023 17:02

Thank you. I have tried them but no change 🤔

Try the gardium acid reflux control tablets. They work a miracle for me. More expensive than tums or rennies but really fix it.

Gaviscon always works for me, the liquid form, not the tablets.

user294858 · 05/01/2023 18:10

Thanks for the advice.

I'm not 100% convinced it's heartburn. It's such a strange feeling!

Gaviscon advance, you can get a small bottle over the counter or a large bottle on prescription.
I have this feeling a lot, especially at nighttime when led down. Your description of sambuca sounds about right, I just to describe it as a mixture of dry throat/burning.

Mentalpiece · 05/01/2023 18:46

I always find a glass of cold milk gets rid of heartburn immediately.
The alkaline of the milk gets rid of the acidity.

ohidoliketobe · 05/01/2023 18:48

That's a very accurate description thinking about it!
Agree with PP - glass of cold milk to ease it short term, and I've found liquid gaviscon best to relive symptoms

user294858 · 05/01/2023 18:51

I feel relieved that some of you agree with this description.

Is it normal that I am having it constantly all day and food/drink or lying/ standing isn't having any effect on it?

I had this at the start of Covid so if you have any tests it might be worth checking? It was exactly as you've described.

However I do also get heartburn which is very similar but affected by eating. The Gaviscon tablets work for me but I wish they weren't so expensive.

christmas2022exchange · 05/01/2023 19:04

You aren't pregnant are you, that can cause heartburn?
Usually further along into the pregnancy though.

daisydoods · 05/01/2023 19:09

Yes, it's awful! I had it during pregnancy and since I get it every few months - sometimes I get it bad if I've had raw white onion, other times I just have it randomly. Milk eases it for me in the short term and then gaviscon, haven't tried the liquid just the awful chalk tablets but they do the trick. I find it feels at times like my throat is on fire with it

user294858 · 05/01/2023 19:14

I am definitely not pregnant.
I did have heartburn and indigestion in both my pregnancies but it was very different to this.

I took a covid test when this started, but actually will pick one up tomorrow and Test again. I would be relieved if it was!

I take gaviacon or rennie but don't get it badly.

I've read green apples can help ... not tried it myself but seen it lots of places and the older I get the more I 'get' some old wives remedies

dontgobaconmyheart · 05/01/2023 20:08

I've never really thought about that comparison, but i'd say that's a pretty accurate description of how I often feel as someone who as Acid Reflux.

I'd try and eat smaller meals for a few days and avoid anything spicy, caffeine, onions and garlic etc to let things calm down. Omeprazole can be bought over the counter and is very effective. I don't find Gaviscon has ever done anything for my symptoms, albeit not tried it in a few years as I'm on long term prescription meds for GERD now.

user294858 · 05/01/2023 20:59

Thanks for the tips, will try it.

Something else I have is a really bitter taste in my mouth and things taste odd. Does that resonate with anyone?
