Didn't say thank you

I'm at the office today and was heading to the toilet when I noticed a young delivery guy waiting outside a locked door carrying a large pile of boxes. So I headed over with my door fob and swiped to let him in, holding open the door so he could go through. He didn't even say thank you or acknowledge me, just hummed a tune as he went in. That's so fucking rude, manners cost nothing.

Just needed to get that off my chest. Grrr.

Infuriating!

Deathraystare · 05/01/2023 13:40

Should have called out " you are welcome!

Rebeljustforkicks · 05/01/2023 13:42

I hate people with no manners, really pisses me off. Like you said, they cost nothing.

Ah, you should have gone with the classic, “No, thank YOU!”

So passive aggressive, but I think it’s expected.

Kevinyoutwat · 05/01/2023 13:49

But yes, bad manners pisses me off too!

Arushofbloodtothehead · 05/01/2023 13:53

Oo I have one of these today.

Colleague is swamped and I messaged her on teams saying I could do one piece of her work today as its due soon and she responded 'oh ok'. I really wanted to respond with 'your welcome'.

Thedaysthatremain · 05/01/2023 13:55

I wouldn't even have noticed

Jenn500 · 05/01/2023 13:59

i probably wouldn’t be bothered to be honest. Sometimes people are lost in thought. shouting ‘you’re welcome!’ Is just petty in my opinion

LadyFlumpalot · 05/01/2023 16:52

Speaking from a security and health and safety perspective... you just swiped a random stranger into your workplace and left him to wander around by himself. It's infuriating and rude that he didn't thank you, but you really shouldn't let strangers into your workplace!

Caveat - obviously I don't know where you work, could be a List X site, could be a school, could be somewhere completely benign.

StaceySolomonSwash · 05/01/2023 17:08

Agree with @LadyFlumpalot. Every place I worked, if you let a visitor in you either accompanied them to either sign in at reception/security or took them to the person they were there to see. Never let people just wander in!

Surreality22 · 05/01/2023 18:59

Good point, sorry he was already in the main office building (someone else must have let him in there) so this was just to access the reception area. It's just a regular office, not a school or similar and he couldn't access the office area we work in itself. He was wearing a courier company's uniform also.

Well he would if he were up to no good. They wear disguises / courier uniforms so nobody questions them. He's hardly going to turn up in a black & white striped jumper and a bag with 'SWAG' written on it.

😁 swag bag

I saw him drive off in the courier van as well after, unless he stole that!

Yeah this. People who shout 'you're welcome' are such passive aggressive twats, I hate it. Yes a thank you is preferable but the world doesn't owe you an award because you mustered up some basic human decency.
