Changing my name - help please

I am getting divorced but I want to change my name back to my maiden name beforehand.

I need the easiest way of doing this - the gov website says I need to write a letter, print it etc, is there an easier way?

Also I need to do it the least expensive way possible

Thank you!

The easiest cheapest way is to wait til you have your divorce certificate, which along with your birth certificate you can then use the two together to change your name back. If you retain a copy of the marriage certificate then that helps further to prove the chain of events re name change as my birth name wasn’t on the divorce certificate.

I had to write a letter when I sent off for a new passport and a few other places. Don’t let anyone tell you you need to do it with deed poll, you don’t.

There’s no reason the letter has to be printed, handwritten and signed works just as well.

I think I was hoping to do it before the divorce really, I just need the break from it and the fresh start.

I can wait, I just don’t want to 😂

I went back to using my maiden name immediately - haven't changed it officially or done anything for past 30 years. All my documentation/legal stuff/bank accounts are in maiden name
You can call yourself whatever you like, as long as you are using a name with the intention to decive/be fraudulent

You can change your name whenever you like. The "letter" just needs to be a piece of paper stating your old name, your new name, and sign it with a witness. It's free to do.

You can change your name with the bank and passport etc just using that unless they're particularly fussy. No need to wait for divorce papers.

Mine wasn't divorce related but I went back to my mother's maiden name about 10 years ago. Just used a deed poll. Think it was £30 back then. Signed it, sent copies to banks etc and done!
