When Rachel in Friends says...

"The weirdest place, would have to be... the foot of the bed." Does that mean because she always did it in obscure places so the bed was weird, or does it mean she wasn't adventurous so the foot of the bed was "different "?

Never got it? 😁

I'm talking about season 1 in the blackout episode.

I always took it as she wasn't very adventurous and so that was the most adventurous place she had been.

Same!

ShirleyPhallus · 04/01/2023 21:03

Yeah she wasn’t adventurous at all. She was with gross old Barry for ages after all

She goes on later to talk about how she'd never had a relationship with they type of passion where you just had to have someone wherever you were. She of course meant that she wasn't at all adventurous, and had only ever had sex in a bed. It's also why she was reluctant to say hers.

Roseberry1 · 04/01/2023 21:04

I thought that too. But Rachel's "past" in high-school never painted her as the unexperienced "bed safe" type of girl.

Friends is my favourite programme ever but oh my gosh, the continuity errors in it grate on me. I totally agree with you that the way Rachel was portrayed in high school is totally different to how she comes across in the first and second series.

Exactly.
"2 nipples no waiting."

But you can be racy in highschool and still massively inexperienced. What's hot sec when you're 18 doesn't cut the mustard when you're 25
People change - even in a sitcom!

doodlepoodlenoodle · 04/01/2023 21:15

And slightly off topic but did it annoy anyone else that you never ever saw Ben and Emma together? Ben seemed to disappear after season 8 Hmm

Puppylucky · 04/01/2023 21:16

sec =sex😃

I tried to watch an episode of 'Friends' way back in the 1990s and got about 10 minutes in before I grabbed the remote. The relentless American accents, The dad jokes. The canned-sounding laughter.

Yeah, I found it hard to get in to but stick with it! It's gets good towards the end of series 3 onwards!
The first series is full of one liners and is incredibly cheesy but I rewatch them all now and I love it!

This joke I never actually got actually! Saw this episode recently and it still didn’t click.

why does ‘two nipples no waiting’ relate to Rachel being easy in high school?

It suggests guys could have access to her boobs without having to wait for it.

We "discovered" Friends and watched every season for the first time during lockdown and wow, we loved it. Dh and I were too busy partying the first time around to watch it! Now me at 49, Dh, 52 and our 17 Yr old son love it. All big fans. We even watched and loved Joey and went to. great lengths to source the entire show.

Wow, I can’t believe I missed that. After all these years, and it really was such an obvious joke!

thank you for that!

Not the point of the thread but agree the continuity errors also drive me mad.

Who would think an American show set in America with American characters would feature American accents?! Funny old world.

I don't think this was weird tbh. It was perfectly in character for Ross. He was barely even a weekend dad to Ben, and he probably stopped bothering altogether once Emma came along. Luckily Ben has two committed mums.

(I know none of these are real people but to the writers Ben was never anything more than a useful plot point when things got quiet. He was never a character in his own right, really, and he didn't have a space in Ross's life.)

Judgyjudgy · 04/01/2023 22:13

It's incredibly dated, but I still love it. I like it for something on in the background sometimes

Stevie6 · 04/01/2023 22:23

"How can I grow if you won't let me blow?" Currently rewatching it, again

I always found it to be a real mixed bag. Some parts were good some parts truly awful. It’s not a series I can watch today although I do like watching Jennifer Aniston in stuff.
