My mother forgot my birthday

Then she got my age wrong. I wasn’t expecting much. She hasn’t given me a card for years. I don’t remember the last time she got me a gift. Is it too much to ask for a happy birthday text from your own mother? Radio silence from siblings too. Feel quite down that no one cares.

Everyone forgets January birthdays. It's the worst time of year for a birthday. Your mother shouldn't have forgotten though, unless she has memory problems or something bad is going on for her, such as illness or something. It is very hurtful to be ignored like that though.

Have a birthday cake from me 🎂🍰🎉🥂🍾

Happy birthday!
My mother & siblings are the same. I expect no card/message etc now. Instead I plan something nice on my birthday either on my own or with others.
It is sad and I wish it wasn't this way but I don't think they don't message out of malice, more that they just don't place importance on birthdays whereas I love a birthday!
If you don't have any plans today, why don't you do something nice for you? Watch a film, buy a nice lunch etc

My MIL is exactly the same with my DH and his siblings. our first year as a couple I made him a cake, and planned a nice (but completely not fancy) day out, he said it was the biggest fuss anyone had made for his birthday. I think DMIL just doesn’t ‘get’ birthdays, Sadly I don’t think they were particularly marked by her parents either.
I hope you have a really lovely birthday! Is there anyone else you can celebrate the day with?

As someone who is closer to your mum's age thanks yours, it happens. Every day seems like the others . I just realised that it is my wedding anniversary tomorrow and I didn't buy a card. It happens!

Thanks for wishing me happy birthday. January birthdays, especially early Jan, are shit enough without people forgetting 🤣 I always remember her bday and my siblings & get them a gift but its never, ever reciprocated. I suppose it’s a symptom of the bigger family dynamic. I’m the first pancake.

Mine was the 2nd. Thanks to FaceBook, everyone seemed to have remembered!

I think I only got one card but truthfully I do not have room for more!

It was, as usual. a non-event just like Christmas. Ah well, it is over now!

I suggest next year you get them all callenders with your birthday (as well as others) on it.

Happy Birthday!! What can you do to look after yourself? Or to have some fun? Or to relax?

I'm a January birthday and I can categorically say no one (friends nor family) have forgotten mine.

I'm sorry, op. That must be very hurtful and there's no excuse.

Happy Birthday Op
Best wishes of the day,🥳

Are you doing anything special at all today cause its your birthday? 🎂

Beebumble2 · 04/01/2023 13:09

Happy birthday, I’m another early January birthday. My mother could never get the date right, so much so that I wondered if she was even there!
As a child I never had a birthday marked by a party, so now I make sure my DH knows exactly what I want to do for my birthday. No surprises, but at least you know you’re going to enjoy it.

stayathomegardener · 04/01/2023 14:08

Happy Birthday!
Mine was yesterday... rubbish dates but no excuse.

Fluffygreenslippers · 04/01/2023 14:53

No I’m not doing anything exciting sadly. Just looking after the baby, he just turned seven months.
